About this listen
Life is never black and white.
One minute you’re a struggling graphic designer in L.A. who's finally coming to terms with being single forever, and the next, you're flying to New York in a private jet to get engaged to your ex-boyfriend’s older brother.
At least...that’s what everyone thinks.
Forced to clean up his playboy image in order to protect his company, Beckham Sinclair, the city’s most eligible billionaire bachelor, wants me to be his fake fiancée and personal assistant. Now I'm spending every spare second with a man I thought I’d never see again.
My freshly mended heart has barely recovered from the first time a Sinclair broke it. But with each passing day, Beck’s dirty mouth and lingering stares make me question his motives—and mine.
As the line blurs between real and pretend, only one thing is certain: there are secrets hiding in this city full of black ties and white lies.

Loved it!
I love the whole story and how detailed the scenes of erotica was. Somehow i Would liked to have a deeper story of the between-parts threw the fake engagement. Byt overall a must listen/read book.

Really enjoyable billionaire romance!
It was so good to read a story where neither party was traumatised, low on angst, and simply a beautiful but steamy romance.
The dual narration was spot on, so if you're looking for a great billionaire story, look no further!

Obsessed.
This was my first Kat Singleton book and for sure isn’t going to be my last 👏 I was GRIPPED from start to finish. The plot. The characters. The spice 😮💨 everything was amazing. Beck was the perfect amount of sweet and swoony. I really liked both narrators, they made you feel Margot and Beck’s connection seamlessly.

😞 The narrating and audio quality let this down
"Black Ties and White Lies" presented a promising story idea that initially captivated my interest. However, despite multiple attempts over several days, I regrettably found myself unable to finish the audiobook. While the concept had potential, several significant factors hindered my enjoyment and ultimately led to my disappointment.
First and foremost, the audio quality of the recording was shockingly bad. I tried several outlets i.e., headphones, no headphones, car speaker,... Frequent static (I guess?), and inconsistencies in volume made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the narrative. These distractions consistently disrupted the flow and prevented me from fully engaging with the story.
Another major letdown was the performance of the female narrator. It is crucial for a voice actor to bring the characters to life and effectively convey their emotions. Unfortunately, the narrator's delivery felt forced and lacked the necessary depth to make the characters relatable. Her portrayal of the protagonist, in particular, left much to be desired, as it failed to evoke any genuine connection.
Despite these shortcomings, I must acknowledge that the story idea itself held great potential. The premise was intriguing, offering the promise of an engaging and thought-provoking experience. However, the execution from the female voice actor fell short of my expectations. Their actions and decisions often felt contrived and lacked the depth and authenticity required to fully invest in their journey.
In conclusion, "Black Ties and White Lies" had an intriguing story idea, but unfortunately, the audio quality and female narrator, hindered my ability to enjoy the book. While others may find more enjoyment in this audiobook, I personally found myself unable to finish it.

Loads to learn for the author
It’s evident that the author has drawn inspiration from Vicious and some of Anna Huang's books, with a hint of a 50 Shades vibe.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to say this:
This story had so much potential, but it falls short due to poor execution - lacking anticipation, buildup, and intensity.
For the first 30 chapters, virtually nothing happens. I kept hoping it would improve, but unfortunately, it didn't.
The plot is painfully predictable and unengaging.
What could have made it better:
At least one chapter dedicated to the FMC's life and background, showcasing her interactions, struggles at work, and setting the stage for her first meeting with the MMC.
A chapter showing the MMC pursuing her, with glimpses of his supposed brilliance. Scenes where he solves difficult situations in unconventional ways would have added much-needed depth and intrigue to his character. Instead, he came across as just another office worker.
The email interactions were vague, with no anticipation or buildup to the next exchange.
The FMC and her friends were portrayed as immature, almost childlike, which was frustrating to read.
The dialogue and monologue were so repetitive that it became grating. There’s no need to rehash what's already been revealed—readers enjoy piecing things together themselves. Sadly, there was nothing to look forward to.
I expected Carter to be an interesting obstacle, but he wasn’t. At all.
I could go on, but I think you get the picture.
I listened to the entire book only because I had paid for it.
I’m not sure if this was the author’s debut novel, but I strongly recommend observing real conversations, perhaps by visiting places or even using dating apps to get a sense of natural dialogue.
This could have been a much better book if someone experienced had provided ruthless feedback before its release.
