Summary
A simple mission. A battle for their lives.
It is 1667, and the war between the Dutch and the English continues apace. Sir Francis Courtney, his son Hal and their crew are carried around the southern tip of the African colonies by the good ship Lady Edwina, licensed to attack and seize the treasure-laden ships of the Dutch East India company. Great Epic story
Loved the story so detailed, really took me on a roller coaster on the open seas. So many twists and turns. I thought the narrator did a great job.

adventure on the seas
having read this in paperback years ago I couldn't wait to listen to it on audible.
I wasn't disappointed as Sean Barrett brought all the characters to life more than a paperback could ever do.
His ability to give all these people a voice of their own isn't a surprise after listening to narration of other Wilbur Smith books.
The story is a great adventure on the seas and Wilbur Smith writes so that you are almost there as he does in all his books.
Great story and you will not be disappointed.

epic
for my generation (63) this is boys own stuff, a rollicking good adventure. it is only my 2nd Wilbur Smith book, but the one I wanted to read/listen to the most, the age of sail and mighty warships, I have already several more books in my library as epics are such great value.
Sean Barretts' voice can be slow and methodical, but there is darkness and death in the story, and as the tale unfolds he draws you in and you feel being there, a great sign in my view.
onto the next great adventure.

Very well read
I read the book about 15 years ago but having it read to me seemed to bring it more to life. I have also got the other two audio tapes in the trilogy which I am going to listen too.
