Being left behind to hold the fort every time the world needs saving, sucks.
For Carmella Hunter, a witch blood with practically no magick, being surrounded by powerful friends has taken its toll. For once it would be nice to be the one doing the saving. Stuck in a dead-end job in Piccadilly's favorite bakery, Carmella spends her days making cinnamon rolls and her evenings feeding the homeless, all the while dreaming of making a difference.
One huge pastry order for the Covens annual meet and an attack of flu germs leaves Carmella delirious with a fever - too delirious to avoid a fateful bargain with a djinn named Paimon. Bound to do his bidding, his seductive voice in her head and his infuriating arrogance make the partnership a trying one. With Paimon, Carmella gets her first taste of power. A power she must use to track down the monsters hunting Paimon's people. Suddenly Carmella isn't so helpless anymore.
Things get complicated when her boss, and close friend, goes missing, and the enforcement agencies don't seem too bothered about looking for a celestial dancer who likes to sleep around. With the help of Mal Banner, the Piccadilly Coven Elder Witch and self-professed playboy, Carmella finally has the opportunity to be the hero she's always wanted to be.
But someone doesn't want Carmella digging. Someone will go to any lengths to make her stop.

Lukewarm for me
I did not think the narrator was the right fit. I have her narrating other book and liked it as it was for younger lead and so her high pitched voice fitted better. Her using the F word is very uncomfortable, however that might be author using the swearing completely in wrong places and for nothing.
I found the book hard to get through. It was meh, then- ok, it is getting better, then meh again. I have no idea why, however it is quite possible that were the book narrated by some deeper, more 'grown up' voice I would like it better.
I am skipping the next in series I think. I just do not care enough about what happens.

This was a first listen with this author/narrator and I'm very excited about Cassidy and Naqvi Loved the world it has all kinds of supernatural beings. I really liked Camilla she was heart warming at times smart and a bit snarky and even funny other she just felt like a real person one you would want to know she's true to her friends and yet she took NO crap from anyone. There was times in the story that was a bit slow for me but keep me engaged and I overlooked that. This story was written by a UK author and therefore uses words different from an English word found it hard at first then got with it lol I even use some with my family now. The narration was great loved it not really sure if I could think of a different narrator for the book. I am already into book two and it's SO SO good. Highly recommend both author and narrator and will get more books by them. I do have one complaint I want ALL of Debbie Cassidy's books in Audible she's very fastly become my new favorite UF author and she has lots of books.
