Everything is familiar. But everything has changed. Coming back to the little community is like walking into a nightmare for Jim Gardener, poet, drunk, potential suicide. It all looks the same: the house; the furniture; Jim's friend, Bobbi; her beagle (though ageing); even the woods out at the back. But it was in the woods that Bobbi stumbled over the odd, part-buried object and felt a peculiar tingle as she brushed the soft earth away. Everything is familiar. But everything is about to change.

Story
Suspenseful, frightening, and sometimes howlingly funny, a story of invasion and battle, survival and heroism. It is a story of how men remember ... and how they love. In Derry, Maine, four young boys once stood together and did a brave thing. Something that changed them in ways they hardly understand. A quarter of a century later, the boys are men who have gone their separate ways. Though they still get together once a year, to go hunting in the north woods of Maine.

Summary
Billy Summers is Stephen King's gripping and compelling novel about a contract killer, an ex-marine, with one last payday to earn before he retires.... Once again, King sets his storytelling talent on a new path with this epic new thriller.
From legendary storyteller and number one best-selling author Stephen King, whose ‘restless imagination is a power that cannot be contained’ (The New York Times Book Review), comes a thrilling new novel about a good guy in a bad job.
Billy Summers is a man in a room with a gun. He’s a killer for hire and the best in the business. But he’ll do the job only if the target is a truly bad guy. And now Billy wants out. But first there is one last hit. Billy is among the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq war vet, a Houdini when it comes to vanishing after the job is done. So what could possibly go wrong?
How about everything.
This spectacular can’t-put-it-down novel is part war story, part love letter to small-town America and the people who live there, and it features one of the most compelling and surprising duos in King fiction, who set out to avenge the crimes of an extraordinarily evil man. It’s about love, luck, fate, and a complex hero with one last shot at redemption.
You won’t put this story down, and you won’t forget Billy.

Steve - you nailed it!
I have read and listened to most of Stephen King’s titles. Billy Summers is absolutely mesmerising. It quickly draws you in until you’re unable to leave this brilliantly crafted world. If you enjoy Mr. King’s work, you’ll love this. If you’re unfamiliar with Stephen King, you’ll be hooked from the first paragraph. The narration by Paul Sparks is truly exceptional and a real tour de force - congratulations Paul, what a mighty performance!
Billy Summers - a masterclass Steve. All I can say is thank you

Disappointing
Not the usual SK type of book, a thriller not a horror type. I found 70% of it quite boring. The narrator didn't help either he spoke too fast and in several places his voice dropped and you could hardly hear what he was saying. All in all I would say SK stick to what you are best at

Exceptional. In terms of story and narration.
There has been some disappointment concerning Mr. Stephen King’s recent books being so far removed from his earlier work. This and the mentions of a certain president sure do tile up people. I’d prefer to say his books were always about people. Sometimes people in scary situations. But always about people. My humble opinion, this was a gripping read. Like a turn of a screw, it gets tighter and tighter. The protagonist seems poorly fleshed out even with the insight into his thoughts. However his thoughts about the other characters is phenomenal. The voice work really complimented the story. Just couldn’t stop listening till the story ended. And was left with the feeling the story ended too soon.

I’m a fan from way back but this is going on the list as one of my favourite SK books. It has everything I love about his work, fully rounded characters who you cannot help but feel something for, complex stories within stories that often span years and a plot with little to no holes. The narration too is flawless. I loved it.
