Listeners will be captivated by this exclusive look into Steven's childhood and challenging family dynamic growing up, how that led to music and early days on the road, his wild ride to the top of the charts, his relationship with wife Mary Beth, and the growth of their family through births and adoptions. In addition to inside stories from his days of youth to his notable career, including the backgrounds to some of his best-loved songs, listeners will walk with Steven down the devastating road of loss after the tragic death of five-year-old daughter Maria. And they'll experience his return to the stage after doubting he could ever sing again.
Poignant, gut-wrenchingly honest, yet always hopeful, Steven offers no sugary solutions to life's toughest questions. Yet out of the brokenness, he continues to trust God to one day fix what is unfixable in this life. This backstage look at the down-to-earth superstar they've come to love will touch fans' lives and fill their hearts with hope.

Long time fan
I enjoyed the story. My only problem was the narrator. It could have been so much better if SCC did the reading. I had to speed up the narrator to get through it.

Good content but
I wish that Steven Curtis Chapman had read the book. It seems that autobiographies better when the author reads them.

Truly a "great adventure" to read/listen to
Would you consider the audio edition of Between Heaven & the Real World to be better than the print version?
As a person with a visual impairment and ADHD audio books have rekindled my love of reading. I loved reading the book, but could also catch things I missed by listening. And the book has pictures :)
What was one of the most memorable moments of Between Heaven & the Real World?
That's a hard one, but I'd have to say the way Steven spoke of Maria's death and all that happened afterwards. The way that God placed people and things in their lives at just the right time, and the way that God used Maria's story in so many lives was so powerful.
Which scene was your favorite?
I think Steven's sharing how he wrote "Cinderella"
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
"SEE"
Any additional comments?
This book brought back so many memories, Steven's music is such a part of my spiritual journey, including praying for him and his family after Maria died. The only thing missing was hearing him narrate the book himself, but Paul Michael did a great job.

Humble transparency
It is surprising to read a memoir of a celebrity who relates very real struggles, especially when he and his family already live their lives in a fishbowl. Steven Curtis Chapman is the nearest embodiment of a modern day prophet. As we read his story, we are encouraged to live with our lives open to God and his sometimes painful touch, and we learn that not doing so ends in destruction. Yielding to God results in new and better while hoarding power over our lives leads to ruin and regret.
