Summary

Declan Sinclair is a Highlander who believes his dreams never lie. When he spots Caya at a public house, he knows instantly she is the woman in his dreams - his future wife. Though her brother had promised never to gamble again, he engages Declan in a card game - and the prize is the lovely Caya.

Caya Pendarvis has no time for childish things like dreams or fairy tales or love. She's the sacrificial lamb on her way to the far north of Scotland to wed a wealthy merchant in exchange for settling her brother's gambling debts.

Winning at cards is one of the many things Declan Sinclair does well. Unfortunately, the ability to court a woman - a talent he lacks - is the only skill he desperately needs to win Caya's heart.

Stupid girl, but she’s so sorry

The heroine is a very stupid girl at over 25. She was very frustrating and made very stupid decisions. She tries to save her brother, even after he sells her, then loses her in a bet. He’s gambled all their money and her mother’s ring, lied constantly and is a mean drunk. Later he hits her and she still tries to save him after discovering he’s a murderer. Then decides to leave the people who have accepted her to find and save him.
I hope the next book is better.

Love Declan

Sweet but not hot . That’s okay though, I enjoyed it. Like some of the other reviews it started a bit slow but not too long, loved Declan and the characters from previous book. I laughed out loud at certain points ( won’t reveal but you’ll find out ) I’m still laughing about it. Any who enjoyable read and of course the narrator was fabulous always. On to next in the series

It starts slowly but keep reading

This book was so slow and boring in the beginning i almost stop listening and started another book but decided to continue on for a bit. So glad I did because it got much better and it was funny, a bit sappy and then very sweet. I’m about to start book 2 now

Wonderful series!!!

I absolutely fell in love with DeClan and Caya! Her brother and his problem with gambling is what initially brings the two together but the trials that the two face with each other is what keeps them together. Such a wonderful series I can’t wait for the next.

Didn't like the heroine

I loved the narrator and the story was good...except the heroine really strained my patience. Too tentative and didn't stand up for herself at all.

Stupid Girl

I could not stand the female main character. She is stupid. There’s naive and there’s stupid. She is stupid. The wishy-washy attitude and the forgiveness she continue to give her brother after everything. He sells her. He berates her. He beats her. Yet she still defends him. And she makes Declan promise to help him. I like Declan. His character is great but I want to say give up on the stupid girl. She’s not worth it. She is always thinking the worst of Declan. The man that has done nothing but treat her right and as a lady should be treated. But defends and excuses her brother who has done nothing but treat her horribly. As the book dragged on it just became too much.

weak women series...

I'm on book 2. so far both lead females in these books are extremely weak slow and outright stupid! The lack of self-esteem and confidence is nauseating I feel sorry for the guys in this book

I wanted to like it

But alas, this story has fallen victim to one of my pet peeves in a romantic plot.... the heroine going blonde, dumb, stupid midway they the book, showing zero sense and completely contradicting her previous comments or thoughts. I hate books like this. I’m going to call it quits.

Good story. Stupid characters

The story was interesting and well written. Clearly the author was inspired by Pride and Prejudice. The narration was perfect.
That being said, I have never read anything with such stupid main characters. Declan has natural good sense, but is naive in interacting with women. He misses the key points to address in conversations. He’s not a great communicator. Caya is naive to the point of stupidity. She doesn’t seem to think for herself most of the time and when she does she applies what knowledge she has poorly more often than not.
