Summary
"A haunting thriller" (PopSugar) about a woman who believes that she has a connection to a decades-old kidnapping and begins a frantic investigation to find out what really happened when the victim goes missing again.
When Fern Douglas sees the news about Astrid Sullivan, a 34-year-old missing woman from Maine, she is positive that she knows her. Fern’s husband is sure it’s because of Astrid’s famous kidnapping - and equally famous return - 20 years ago, but Fern has no memory of that, even though it happened an hour outside her New Hampshire hometown. And when Astrid appears in Fern’s recurring nightmare, one in which a girl reaches out to her, pleading, Fern fears that it’s not a dream at all, but a memory.
Returning to her childhood home to help her father pack for a move, Fern purchases a copy of Astrid’s recently published memoir - which may have provoked her original kidnapper to abduct her again - and as she reads through its chapters and visits the people and places within it, she discovers more evidence that she has an unsettling connection to the missing woman. With the help of her psychologist father, Fern digs deeper, hoping to find evidence that her connection to Astrid can help the police locate her. But when Fern discovers more about her own past than she ever bargained for, the disturbing truth will change both of their lives forever in this "masterful meditation on fear" (Mindy Mejia, author of Strike Me Down).

Ugh! These Characters Are Horrendous!
In spite of disliking every single person in this book, I got thru the whole thing to find out what happened. Beware -- they are truly yucky! I feel like my psyche needs a shower.

I had hope but.....
I read all the reviews before I started this book and even after the first couple hours I had to go back and read them again. Several people said it was a slow start and just to get through it, so that’s what I did. However, with only 2 hours left, I was still wondering when it got better.
It was an ok book. The main characters repeated the same phases which I know was to help explain their personalities but man it was annoying.
The twists and turns were almost painful for me because they were so drawn out.

Enjoyable with every twist and turn!
5-Stars:
There is one major thing that I love the most about a Megan Collins book; and that’s her major twists and turns. You can never guess what’s going to happen because it always changes and I LOVE IT!
Fern’s anxiety that has manifested over the years is so real that it feels like I can feel it. The way she speaks and thinks feels honest and true.
The plot twist so good that I won’t talk about because I hate giving spoilers, but they are great!
After the reading “The Winter Sister”, Megan Collins has turned into an automatic buy author for me.

Stop reading reviews and BUY IT!!!!
Wow Wow Wow!!! So good. Do not let the first few chapters deceive you. They are just the foundation you need to stay grounded through the twists and turns and up and downs this book takes you on!

a good binge listen
If youre looking for an amazing story where you dont see then end coming this book is not for you. Much like the Winter Sister then end is very predictable but like her first novel an enjoyable read. I would recommend this book if you need a lighter thriller read with a some what happy-ish ending
