Summary

During the renovation of a decrepit old barn by several friends, the chance finding of various old manuscripts lodged between some wall cavities reveals clues to a mystery that goes back over four and a half centuries to the time of Queen Mary I, Queen Elizabeth I, and Lady Jane Grey, who is often referred to as the Nine Day Queen.

Told from several viewpoints, the startling story of Lady Jane Grey finally comes to light as the previously unknown last moments of her life involving mystery, intrigue, politics, and love come to an explosive ending that may even force a revision of the history books.

Lady Jane

I remember learning about lady Jane queen for 9 days in school I even seen a film.

This is part historical fiction part history book and I found it very interesting there is a lot of history to take in and I learned a few
Interesting new things the fictional part of the story is well done and I love The whole conspiracy aspect of the book and I would recommend this to anyone who is interested in this period of history and likes historic fiction.

Great book

I really enjoyed this book, it has a slightly slow start but rapidly picks up and keeps you wanting to know more. Great narration too

Amazing characterisations and a story I got lost in

I love a good historical novel and this one was a total pleasure to listen to. With amazing characterisations and narration throughout I was transported between modern day and 16th century England and thoroughly enjoyed the story of a period I had only vague knowledge about.
In particular I felt the narrator did an amazing job with the few very detailed tranches of history - which had I been reading the book am sure I would have had to reread a few times before I got it! In the end I only had to go back twice when I was trying to manage a needy toddler at dinner time and listen!
Highly recommended!

Sadly disappointing.

Awful performance, affected croaky voice, dreadful Irish accent, inconsistent 'peasant' accent, delivered in a slightly gabbled manner, which detracts a great deal from a potentially interesting story. Writing a bit purple prose-ish. Descriptions and personifications somewhat sketchy and cliche'd. Sad really, as the concept is interesting and could have been improved with good presentation. Much of the language, phraseology and knowledge credited to the charachters is much closer to the 20th, century than the 16th.
The story is underpinned by the offering of much informative explanations of the family connexions and political wranglings of the time. Not a bad listen, but three stars at best.
