About this listen

Sometimes you need to run, to find out where you really belong...

Baby Saul has had it with just about everything. She's fed up with her job and her colleagues, her love life is permanently casual, and underpinning everything is the grief of losing her much-loved dad. Oh, and if the aunties don't stop asking her when she's going to settle down and start having babies, she might just lose it.

When she finds some love letters between her grandfather and someone who is very clearly not her grandmother, Baby realises that she needs to know more. She heads to India to do some detective work on this mysterious other woman... and to find out a bit more about herself along the way. What she doesn't bargain for is Sid, her guide (and unwilling driver) being annoyingly handsome, with a knack for asking Baby the sort of questions that force her to look at what she really wants out of life.

Great Story Teller

This is a great book by Anita. I bought this because l wanted to support an Asian author! I was not disappointed!!! Not only is Anita a great author, she’s also a very talented storyteller. It felt like a biography, which l understand it’s not, the historical context is well researched. The plot was perfect, she pulled me into Baby’s character in such a way that it brought back memories of my school days. No one could pronounce my name and l was given an English name to make the teacher life easier. The name calling, the embarrassment of being seen in an Indian outfit or with my mother wearing a sari. I totally get this book.
Well done Anita!

Beautiful narrative

Such a warming story, full of hope and truth. A difficult subject dealt with in a compassionate way. Anita’s story telling really is delightful and soulful too. Highly recommend. Thankyou

loved it

I liked Anita Ranis biography, so wasn't sure about a novel. It was well read, a captivating story and loved the historical elements. Partition is a subject often avoided but this book dealt with it and its impact on families and loss. Moving.

Wonderful

I loved her first book and was not disappointed with baby does a runner. Interesting facts, a love story, fantastic descriptions of food and culture and a history that I never fully understood.

The descriptions of her surroundings, the people and her feelings really touched me.

Loved this book- loved the emphasis on the particular parts of the story and didn’t want the story to end. Would love to read a part 2 of this book
It’s emotional, funny, uplifting and grounding

Absolutely loved it.. Gripping, Engaging..

It was go engaging.. Anita is such a great story teller. I was fully emersed in the whole journey and was sad to see it end..
You forget that our ancestors will/may have gone thru major upheavals like the partition or expulsion from Uganda and we as the next generation take our freedom for granted.
This audio has left a lasting impression on me. Gave me a taste of what must have been like thru the eyes of one woman..
The is sadness, love and happiness and hope.
Was a joy to listen too...

Absolutely loved it!

Loved the way Anita told this story & the amount of factual details elevated the story. Loved the journey, & cried at the poignant moments especially the description of what happened to women during the partition. A mixture of love, laughter, and sadness combined. I hope to see more from Anita Rani she reads this beautifully.

Wonderful!

I do not normally write reviews, but I felt I had to with this story. A beautifully written and read (by Anita) book with tonnes of history and explanation of the terrible sacrifice made by the people of India during partition. I didn’t want it to end. Please write a sequel, I would love to know what happens to the characters next!
