About this listen
Award-winning handbook for girls and women on the autism spectrum, perceptive and wise reflections and advice .
Gold Medal Winner in the Sexuality/Relationships Category of the 2011 IPPY Awards
Honorary Mention in the 2010 BOTYA Awards Women's Issues Category
Girls with Asperger's syndrome are less frequently diagnosed than boys, and even once symptoms have been recognised, help is often not readily available. The image of coping well presented by AS females of any age can often mask difficulties, deficits, challenges and loneliness.
This is a must-have handbook written by an Aspergirl for Aspergirls, young and old. Rudy Simone guides you through every aspect of both personal and professional life, from early recollections of blame, guilt and savant skills to friendships, romance and marriage. Employment, career, rituals and routines are also covered, along with depression, meltdowns and being misunderstood. Including the reflections of over 35 women diagnosed as on the spectrum, as well as some partners and parents, Rudy identifies recurring struggles and areas where Aspergirls need validation, information and advice.
As they recount their stories, anecdotes and wisdom, she highlights how differences between males and females on the spectrum are mostly a matter of perception, rejecting negative views of Aspergirls and empowering them to lead happy and fulfilled lives.
This book will be essential listening for females of any age diagnosed with AS and those who think they might be on the spectrum. It will also be of interest to partners and loved ones of Aspergirls and anybody interested either professionally or academically in Asperger's Syndrome.

Really useful
Found this really insightful, linked to this book from Fern Brady’s recently released book and I’m glad I did.

Overall worth it for late dx female, but wouldn’t recommend for new parents
Overall I’m glad I listened to this. I took warning of the reviews and made sure to keep a more open eye on it and some of its antiquated thinking and advice, I’m happy I read the reviews first. As someone who is just going down the diagnosis route now, aged 40, this actually was the closest representation of my own experience and had Asperger’s still been a dx i now understand that this is what fits me, more than other research I’ve done on ASD. But I do agree that there are some old fashioned views in here, advice to ‘wear makeup and dress nicely’ to attract men, no mention of other sexualities or gender expressions. I didn’t feel comfortable listening to the bits about curing it, or that it was the parents fault or gut-related etc, and the constant advice to exercise, eat well, dress nicely etc all seemed quite gender conforming and superficial.
But overall I am glad I listened, and would recommend for other women how are older and just figuring out this stuff. I wouldn’t recommend it to a parent of a young girl - my friend for instance, whose 11yr old daughter she suspects may be autistic and would fit the AS dx - as there are probably too many damaging old-fashioned ideas in it I wouldn’t want her reinforcing on a young girl in 2023.

Practical and informative
I read this hoping to gain a better understanding of potential asperger/ASD symptoms in myself and people in my life. Not sure what to think about it, now that I've finished it. On the one hand it's compassionate, validating, and practically informative, on the other hand I felt that it had an excessively victimizing vibe that is not too helpful or empowering. Maybe the latter perception stems from internalized societal biases/expectations, but I can't tell at this point. Also, the occasional pseudoscience was a turnoff. Interesting read, however.

fantastic emotional read
My daughter 13 recently diagnosed, also I relate to my girl in many ways, I have never understood our differences in the world until her diagnosis. I'm currently seeking a diagnosis for myself which is proving to be emotionally difficult as I find it difficult to Express how I feel. Fantastic book highly recommended

Really easy listen yet hugely helpful
This was a really easy listen, with great narration.
This was really informative and helpful for understanding both girls/women with AS and actually a lot of things rang true about my son who has AS.
The only thing I didn't like was that it was about American policies etc. So those parts are not so helpful to us English. But that is only a tiny part of the book and a tiny criticism.
If you are the parent of or the friend / family of an AspieGirl give this a read, it will really help you understand how life is for them.

Enlightening
If you are older and feeling "different" from other women, this might be very helpful

Worth a read if you want to learn more
Very educational and relatable but a bit repetitive at times. Worth reading if you want to learn more about Asperger’s in girls. I was particularly pleased to read that my perpetual voluntary singledom is not so unusual!

Just not for me
It seemed more targeted towards kids or parents of kids than adults. And contained some pseudoscience that wasn't for me.
