Summary

Gabriella

It was supposed to be simple - drink tequila, forget about the life I’m running away from, and have one wild night. That’s exactly what my next-door neighbor, Aubrey, told me to do.

That’s when I met him - the arrogant Aussie. It’s easy to forget a night with a stranger until that stranger is living next door.

Oliver

If it wasn’t for my horrific motorbike accident, I’d still be playing soccer. Instead, I’m crashing at my mate Chance’s place with no clue where my life is heading.

I needed an escape while I got my head together. But it was never supposed to be with her - the girl next door. The rich heiress arranged to be married to some wealthy snob, and I was the arrogant Aussie who didn’t care about anyone but myself.

She couldn’t have been more wrong.

Gabriella Carmichael is a heartbreaker - the worst kind. And I’m selfish, cocky, and won’t settle for second best. I have to make her all mine. There is no other choice.

Didn't finish 😕

I just COULD NOT get into it with the narrators. Something about both their voices just grated in my ears. I git 2 chapters in and sadly I'm done.

wish Muffy had done this one solo

Tom is probably a nice guy, but his female character voices are TERRIBLE. They sound like kindergartners, which is very disturbing during the spicy parts. Major "ew" factor there.

That said, I enjoyed the storyline.

Crocodile Dundee, not Chris Hemsworth

I don't like to slam authors or narrators. Because I'm sure there are those who will enjoy this audiobook. If you are into the cheesy Hallmark made for TV movies... & also think Crocodile Dundee was hot, then this one's for you, my friends! If, however, you're more into Chris Hemsworth's aussie accent, than Crocodile Dundee's... & you like a little reality or erotica in your literary indulgences, then you'll want to give this one a pass. So for me, this was a pass. I tried to finish it. Got about halfway through. But I just couldn't do it. I couldn't get the images, that the Crocodile Dundee voice evoked, out of my head. This wasn't Muffy Newton finest hour either. But to each, his/her own.

Good story male narrator is trash!

I liked this story it had a great concept wasn't rushed but the male narrator completely ruined it for me.. They could of let Muffy narrate the entire story and it would of been great.

Narration was off, story was meh.

The female narrator was great. The male was okay unless he was doing a female voice. It had that high pitch whine that sounds more mocking than real. The story was meh. I could figure out why they fell for each other, nor ever felt any sort of connection between them.

Arrogant Aussie

The best part of this book was Muffy Newton and she should have narrated the book by herself. The male Narrator has not great doing the female voice, she sound either too young and immature or too old. The story was..... I like that parts that contained Aubrey and Chance. I like a lot of parts from the story but I felt in some ways that she ended up in the life she was trying to avoid with someone borderline abusive.

I’m continuing on...

Save Your Ears - Read it

Over all I don’t even know how I made it through this entire book. The only conclusion I can come to is that the story was actually interesting and I liked what I could understand of the writing. However the performances by Tom Kennedy and Muffy Newtown (my first time hearing both) made listening to this audiobook excruciating. I kept hoping it would get better. Newtown was better than Kennedy in the first person narrative but both of them butchered the other character in the narration. If I had to guess Tom Kennedy is definitely not Australian and the accent was super forced. And his female characters were whiny. So nasal and not at all like Muffy additionally the overall recording quality was poor compared to other audible recordings that I’ve heard. The narration in itself the pausing, the speed, the phrasing, we are all very elementary. It’s unfortunate because it definitely took away from the story. I’m about to listen to another hero club book and I am hoping that it is better than this one. I’m so glad that this was from my escape collection and I didn’t pay for it. I’m just one of those people that wants to know how the story ends but I don’t recommend that you start this.

Unrealistic story!

For me it is not believable that the male character in this story could fall in love with a spineless and subdued person like this female "heroine". Although professional, I don't like Mluffy Newtown's voice, so when the male narrator isn't up to par and can float the story, the narration falls flat. Unfortunately not a good listen, and if you don't have Audible Escape and get the story for free, it's not worth a credit.

Distracting narration & ok story...

The male narrator’s female voice was distractingly terrible. I love accents & his Aussie voice was great but suffered badly when speaking the female parts. My favorite part was getting to check in on Chance & Aubrey’s story. It was harder to get invested with Oliver & Gabriella...the drama felt forced & it would have been far more realistic to just speak honestly to each other. Still love the series but not my fave.
