Summary

Chaos is afoot!

What was meant to be a simple hunt turned into a life-changing adventure! Caldor is whisked into a world of magic, adventure, and politics. Can he survive long enough to reach his goals?

In a magical world known as "The Wyrd" only those who have the Spark can be adventurers, diving into magical dungeons, getting epic loot, and leveling up by collecting essence. Caldor is several years past the age when most people find out they are sparked, but that doesn’t stop him from wishing.

Caldor’s father was an adventurer, and he wants nothing more than to be like him, an Arcane Knight. When his hunt goes sideways and he finds that he can harness the powers of being a Sparked, he is filled with excitement and ready to battle his way to the top!

Magic, adventure, and a dose of unwanted politics await him; will he survive long enough to become an Arcane Knight? Listen and find out.

This is a LitRPG book with a "system"—levels, stats, and cool abilities. No harem and loads of fun violence.

When everyone is OP AF, who wins? Me, I do

Arcane Knight by @TimothyMMcGowe1 published by @GuardPublishing. For the most part, I enjoyed this novel. I particularly liked the litRPG concepts with something extra added in the form of Ares the griffon 🦅. The characters were interesting and varied.

And the MC was pretty OP as fuck. He awakens his spark ⚡️ later than usual but his powers are beyond measure. He's able to gain experience and essence much faster than anyone else. With this skill he's able to reach his first threshold - a checkpoint in his progression.

This book draws on the standard LitRPG tropes, which serve the genre so well including, XP dungeon loot and gear options. In most LitRPG novels 🐉 mythical monsters need to be levelled up but not Ares the griffon.

Ares is a fucking legendary beast who helps the MC return home to his time-critical quest as an arcane knight. As an audiobook 🎵 listener I enjoyed 19hrs and 20minutes of it. The additional works at the end meant I wasted 40 minutes of my life, which I didn't appreciate.

However, I very much look forward to reading the next book in the Order & Chaos series. I hope that there is going to be even more extensive mythical lore, which I absolutely loved in this novel. 📚4/5 ⭐️ #BookReview

What an Entrance

My first foray into the LITRPG genre, I had always shied away from it as not seeing it as a true genre in the sci-f/fantasy realm, but I love isekai anime so I'll thought I'd give it a shot while I was in hospital. I was blown away, everything I love from anime like sword art online and a story that kept me constantly engaged, the performances was absolutely on point and I can't wait to listen to the second book.

Easy listening

This was my first litrpg audio book. Previously put off thinking I’d constantly have to listen to repeated long winded stats / progression / achievements etc etc Refreshingly stats and character progression lists are kept to a minimum. Great premise for a story and despite being over 20 hours long I feel like the story has barely started so hopefully there will be many more instalments ! Without giving any spoilers away there are a number of plot lines throughout the story that make me want to listen to the next 2 books to see where they progress. Overall a great effort for a first book. Well worth a listen to.

I can only recommend this book, especially for fans of progession fantasy. The narrator also did an amazing job. Just awesome.

GOOD START!

Story starts in a fantasy world with no MC being teleported or that plot so we get a MC who a bit more fresh then the current stories in the LITRPG genre.
Story is a standard power fantasy mixed with game mechanics with a weak to strong MC with world building as the Story progresses.

it's ok but not great

The characters seem really shallow and often change personalities on the fly. The main character cant seem to decide if hes a genius or stupid, calm or reckless, rich or poor. Narrators did a good job with the material, the world building is okay but wont blow you away.

So so story very obvious story

So the story is very obvious and character interaction feels like this role playing games we play on console, very monotone.

The story was obvious and very disappointing

Cool premise, it cud've been so much better tho

Idk if it was the narrators or the author's writing style, but the dialogue was awful. Jokes felt forced, flirting was cringey ...n the MC was just not inspiring. Like something was off with this guy. He's humble and cocky at the same time in a way that doesn't make sense. To me he comes across as an unlikable idiot. Doesn't think anything through, passionate for no reason. Supposed to be a nerd, but is ignorant of everything. Idk, he just feels "incomplete" to me. Like his whole character was a thought that got distracted midway through. Maybe u'll feel differently.

The world seems cool. The magic system seems cool. I really wanted to like this story. I was excited to read this one ...but I can't lie, it was pretty disappointing for me.

Worth the listen.

Great fantasy LitRPG. Not harem.
The way the magic and system is set up is pretty cool.
Our MC is a late bloomer but comes in strong as soon as it kicks in. He tries to be a good guy and follow in his late father's footsteps.
Lots of action and magic and magical beasts.
I'm really glad I was able to get this book for free. I got it for free with the expectation of an honest review.

Took a chance on the cool cover…

And was I rewarded. I liked the book. It is refreshing for a book to take its time building the MC. I look forward to the future installments. I really had a great time. On to the next credit

Great first book. Luvin it so far!

I'm giving my complaint first. There is only one audiobook so far. I don't have any info when the next book is coming out. I'm really disappointed that I can't binge this series yet. Okay, my rant is officially over!

This is an excellent book. I was never bored, which happens a lot in book 1 of a series since there is so much plot setup to do. The slice of life part of the book always moved along with a purpose. Also, the MC stumbles, as he should, but is not a bumbling idiot. He has knowledge but lacks experience. That doesn't last long though since this book progresses at a steady pace. Ronnie Rowlands and Tiffany Suzuki are the perfect voices for this series and I'm really looking forward to re-listening to this audiobook just before the next audiobook comes out.

I received the audiobook free in exchange for and Early and Honest review. So here's honesty for you. I'll probably copy and paste my complaint somewhere in each of my reviews for this series. I want more now, it's that good! I'm trying not to listen to it again before I know when the next one is coming out.

This is going to be an epic series, I like the magic system and the intrigue. There is a good balance of action and story. Great book and very good performance by the narrators.

not great

Story moves pretty slowly there and world/characters/motives seem a bit too contrived in a "YA" way. The MC is too unlikable for me especially for as much slice of life stuff there is eating getting drunk hanging out with friends.

it's a good start for a new series

a great start for a new series. MC isn't OP and has lots of friends to draw on to help him out on his big quest. it does take a bit to get his class, but I don't see how that's a negative. people just don't have patience now.

it's worth a credit and a listen for sure, the dual narration that RGP does is always top notch and helps keep the roles straight for me.

this was a free copy.

Loved this story!

Really love the start from the beginning and progress from weak to strong type of stories and this one pokes my fun button just right. Really enjoyed this story and it was very well narrated! Well done!

Not a wasted 20 hrs

Unique take in the level up system and gifted heir.

Production value needs a little work especially with the female narrator.

takes 30 chapters to start leveling up!

half the book in then it starts before that enjoy a slice of life like series, with minor intrigue.
