Summary

An ever-expanding desert. A centuries-old curse. Enough power to change Anything.

Luke is a straightforward man. There are only a few things he wants in life: Levels, things to fight to gain levels, and finding Cookie, so he can fight things more efficiently. Well, better armor might be nice. Yet, the other members of his team are ready for some relaxation, and fun in the sun. After all, there should be huge perks that come with stopping an invasion in its tracks, and a hero’s welcome would be a welcome change.

Surprisingly, being famous for making the Kingdom wealthy and powerful has its downsides. Namely, there is now a huge price on their heads. Ordered to flee from the political machinations, assassins, and marriage proposals, The Four soon find themselves searching for a way to pit their power against the world, and make a comfy home in the desert.

The problem is, Nature likes to be left alone. When you start messing with it....Anything could happen.

A great book

This is a great series. In the first book we had the superhero training and first hurdles. Now they are getting set in their destiny and new forces from the universe and new lore is given. also the heroes get to mature and better understand their powers.
Loved the tempo, the heroes, the villains, the story, almost everything. the one thing that pissed me of is that I couldn't understand very well when the narator was using accents: peasant and french. English is my second language so if you have a similar issue, i suggest lowering the narration speed to 0.9. it did wonders for me. Can't wait for the next book

A most enjoyable listen

This was a fantastic book. We got greater insight in the world and the characters. There were some very funny parts too.

Dakota Krout did an amazing job as did the narrator, there were a few very tricky words. Thanks for having the audiobook released the same day as the book.

I can't wait for the next book.

Easy 5/5

Another entertaining book by Dakota Krout, and an amazing narrative performance by Christian J. Gilliland. I have been waiting for this continuation for some time now, especially with the cliffhanger Zeb’s storytelling pub scene at the end of the first book.

As I’ve come to expect, this story excels at Dakota’s trademark humour with a unique LitRPG progression style character development. We get to see how the four main characters adjust to being a real team over an extended period after the big boss battle af the end of the first book. I personally enjoyed Luke’s perspective and adventures in murderworld. His insane/insightful interactions with Zeb were also pretty funny. Taylor as the apprentice archmage had to deal with making hard decisions and balancing her duty with the kingdom versus the trust if her teammates. Although Andre played a vital role in this book, looking back at it and based on the cover, it would have been great if there had been a couple more chapters from his perspective.

In terms of the world building, we got a better idea of the wider world and a brief description of the higher planes of existence. We also found out that the mysterious voice/power that saved Luke when he got his mana system in the first book was via a higher power ascender. There were also little tidbits/shoutouts to the mountain dale divine dungeon series.

Not gonna lie, Luke’s unicorn friendship battle in murderworld felt trippy. Also funny af extra credits from the narrator at the end of the book was just icing to the cake to cap off an amazing ride. I literally had to stop most of my work today to finish this story……. Totally worth it.

I can’t wait for the third instalment.

okay but lacking

This book was okay but had several aspects that annoyed me.

The conflict and politics seemed forced. It seems unnatural for a team to be so important yet have zero allies in the entire kingdom. People are allowed to pretty much attempt to assassin them but they can't do anything against them and no one can help them...

The conflict between the characters actually felt justified but then the conflict is swept under the rug for pretty much no reason.

Yet again the main character is written to be selfish brutal and forceful yet provides the resources for every progression of everyone else on his team and is never appreciated or rewarded for it.

And the ending of the book felt underwhelming. There is never a sense of suspense because it's known that all the characters have sush a high degree of plot armor nothing bad that is lasting will ever actually happen to them.

In all it's a okay book to pass time but the authors world building has gotten lazy and feels like he would rather make callbacks to other series rather than putting focus on any new work.

Absolutely loved this one

The first book was a fresh take on the genre and surprised me with both a nice story and good voice acting. I found the humor to my liking and how you followed all our characters in different chapters as the story progressed. In this book the story continues and I find myself laugh even more... Dakota is not very nice to his characters and I could hear our famous bards screams as they team had him burn as a bonfire over and over again. I laughed way too much about that. The story is evenly paced, a bit tricky to follow about the politics (you have to pay attention when the bard tells his story at the inn, it´s crucial to understand everything about why it´s happening).

All in all, this is just right in almost all ways for me... if nothing weird happens in future books, this might be one of the better series ever.

More Dakota...less polish.

Honestly a strong start especially considering that after book one I wasn't sure how much life the story had left. The climax was just bad however. The elements of the climax were great but it needed more work to pull it off. As is it felt like he took a list of awesome [spoilers](unicorn, crystal, lasers, dragons, elementals, ley lines, explosions, caverns, heroic sacrifice, dying confession of love, great loss, and unstoppable armies) things dumped them into a blender and then baked the result. It felt like he wanted his story to be epic but didn't do the work to make those idea have impact and didn't want to write around the consequences of his narrative choices and instead just wrote away all of them at the end of the scene.

A bit more humorous than book one in the bestway

Excellent sequel to an excellent book, very much in the same vain but the humor just landed better for me personally than book 1 did which elevated it to the next level of fun. I loved it.

Trys too hard, gets too up its own ***

The book is decent but often falls pray to pride, what with the many references to other Krout books, if they weren't beating you over the head with them they'd be better, but them combined with the fact he lost his narrator for multiple series makes me draw some conclusions about the author, similar to how many feel about Kong, who just happens to start using the same narrator who picked up said multiple series...

Other than that, the comedy ranges from passable to a guy standing on stage saying "Please laugh" in terms of quality.

I can't stop laughing at the end!

The end bloopers. I'm still crying from laughing so hard! I was listening to this on speakerphone and found myself having to explain murderous unicorns to my wife. Anyway, this is a hilarious story with a great performance. It's a series I will instabuy going forward and I recommend you do too.

Dakota's Best Series to Date!

I've pretty much have listened to all that Mr. Krout has put out there and love his work! This one is original and expansive and unlike pretty much anything out there. Its a little frustrating knowing his new monthly book release for Year of the Sword will be his main focus? Maybe. But I sure hope he opens up this world with a extra large can opener or ( Cookie) and pours out all the mana water unto other planes of existence and keeps Full Murderhobo going for a good long while of mayhem and fun!! This is a blast to listen too!! Christian Is a Top Shelf Narrator and knocks it out of the park in his performance! Looking forward to the next installment and hope its coming down soon or something!
