Anti-vaxxers have changed their minds, but rarely because someone has given them a list of facts. Berman argues that anti-vaccination activism is tied closely to how people see themselves as parents and community members. Effective pro-vaccination efforts should emphasize these cultural aspects rather than battling social media posts.

Really well written piece about the landscape and history of anti-vaccine activism
As someone who has been working a bit at the coalface of anti-vaccine activism, I wasn’t sure of the point of this book but now I know it’s one of the best pieces about how we are where we are.
The author gives an unemotional account of how anti-vaccine activism arose in a gentle and non-judgemental manner.
Quite rightly he also articulates the origins of fears that individuals can exploit to draw people down a dark rabbit-hole and how we might help combat misinformation and disinformation to help support community health. Aside from omitting discussion of the state weaponisation of vaccine disinformation, the book is very comprehensive and an easy listen. Well worth the download.
