This certainly doesn’t mean that I’m quitting my day job, but it does give me a place to shed a little light on what it’s like to be a kid from Springfield, Virginia, walking through life while living out the crazy dreams I had as young musician. From hitting the road with Scream at 18 years old, to my time in Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, jamming with Iggy Pop or playing at the Academy Awards or dancing with AC/DC and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, drumming for Tom Petty or meeting Sir Paul McCartney at Royal Albert Hall....

In Gotta Get Theroux This, Louis takes the reader on a joyous journey from his anxiety-prone childhood to his unexpectedly successful career. Nervously accepting the BBC’s offer of his own series, he went on to create an award-winning documentary style that has seen him immersed in the weird worlds of paranoid US militias and secretive pro-wrestlers, get under the skin of celebrities like Max Clifford and Chris Eubank and tackle gang culture in San Quentin prison, all the time wondering whether the same qualities that make him good at documentaries might also make him bad at life.

They asked me to write a book about mental health, because I sometimes talk about my mental health in tweets and interviews, like suicidal thoughts and anxiety, and what I’ve done to try to deal with it. I said to them, oh, I don’t know if I could fill a whole book with just that. But how’s about I write a general autobiography type of thing, and all the mental health stuff will naturally appear along the way?

At the age of 9, Romesh Ranganathan delivered his first ever stand-up set at a Pontin's Holiday Camp talent competition, smashing the only other competitor, a young girl playing the kazoo. The gig went so well that Romesh retired his comic genius for 22 years, hiding behind the guise of a maths teacher, before finally revealing himself again (no, not like that) at the tender age of 31. In 2010, Ranganathan staged his epic comeback gig to an almost silent room, and has since gone on to earn his place as the most in-demand overweight vegan Sri Lankan comedian in Britain.

Summary
The number one best seller and Sunday Times Humour Book of the Year by national treasure Bob Mortimer.
Bob Mortimer’s life was trundling along happily until, suddenly in 2015, he was diagnosed with a heart condition that required immediate surgery and forced him to cancel an upcoming tour. The episode unnerved him but forced him to reflect on his life so far. This is the framework for his hilarious and moving memoir, And Away....
Although his childhood in Middlesbrough was normal on the surface, it was tinged by the loss of his dad and his own various misadventures (now infamous from his appearances on Would I Lie to You?), from burning down the family home to starting a short-lived punk band called Dog Dirt. As an adult, he trained as a solicitor and moved to London. Though he was doing pretty well (the South London Press once crowned him ‘The Cockroach King’ after a successful verdict), a chance encounter in a pub in the 1980s with a young comedian going by the name Vic Reeves set his life on a different track. And now, six years on, the heart condition that once threatened his career has instead led to new success on BBC2’s Gone Fishing.
Warm, profound and irrepressibly funny, And Away is Bob’s full life story (with a few lies thrown in for good measure).
Critic reviews
"Delightful...it's a precarious world, but And Away...is a heartfelt testament to the magic of finding your happy place within it." (Sunday Times)
"Everyone will love this book." (Caitlin Moran, Times Magazine)
"Wonderfully entertaining and surprisingly poignant." (GQ)

Why censor an autobiography? Please don’t do that.
If you purchase an autobiography by someone like Bob Mortimer, you should already know what you might expect to hear from time to time. I for one don’t appreciate having certain words bleeped out. Lovely book, lovingly told
I am American, with British family. I get exposed to a lot more UK TV shows and other pop culture than most Americans. I've seen Bob Mortimer on #WILTY many times and found him refreshing, charming, and intensely funny. So, I had to get this book! What a lovely book!
It takes you through a breezy, casual journey of Bob's life with hilarious anecdotes, lovingly recounted memories, and self-effacing humor. What I loved were the reflections on his relationships, which are strongly woven throughout. I learned so much about the man that it makes me respect his comedy and him even more.
The one thing I loved most was the reflection at the end about his mom. You could feel the love Bob has for his mom -- a love I have for mine (who has also passed). I won't spoil the specifics, but if that passage doesn't cause you to well-up a bit (or even cry), then you've lost your humanity.
Thanks for the laugh and the tenderness! Your mom (and dad) would be proud!

Just a brilliant special soul. Love you Bob!
Absolutely loved this. It’s amazing how someone can be so fragile for so long yet through relationships with people - that which he lacked and brought him the most fear in his earlier life- he would bloom into the wonderful and genuine person we grew up with and loved. Bob was always my favorite out of the Vic and Bob duo, and I think it’s because Bob always looked so happy and seemed to be having a bloody good time performing on stage. Little did I know, that this unbridled joy was coming from within a person that had that locked deep inside for so long. Everything Bob has done has been earned through hard work, perseverance, duty, and most of all love. Bless your beautiful heart Bob Mortimer. May your star be forever in our sky.
