Summary

It was an idyllic summer. Until they had to escape.

France, 1943.

Forced to flee war ravaged Poland, Sara and her parents are offered refuge in a beautiful but dilapidated house in the French Alps. It seems the perfect hideaway, despite haunting traces of the previous occupants who left in haste. But shadows soon fall over Sara's blissful summer and her blossoming romance with local villager Alain. As the Nazis close in, the family is forced to make a harrowing choice that could drive them apart forever, while Sara's own bid for freedom risks several lives.

Will Sara be reunited with those she loves? And can she ever find her way back to Alain?

By turns poignant and atmospheric, this is the compelling novel from Sunday Times best-selling author Carol Drinkwater about the power of first love and courage in our darkest hours.

Amazing read

I've read all of Carol's books and loved every one, however An Act of Love is her best book by far, I was in France with the characters, carried by Carol's fab narration, gripped from the start and cried at the end, the details are incredible 10/10!

Un-put-down-able!

An amazing story of love, life and the struggle against oppression during WW2 in France. A slow and quiet start, but about a third of the way in, it became un-put-down-able. More like this please!

An Act Of Love, a wartime story

I have enjoyed An Act of Love and although somewhat predictable it held my interest to the end. I especially liked part two of the novel and felt it could have been fleshed out more at the expense of part one. The liberation of Nice was of particular interest.... as an audible production, I feel, I would have liked a younger voice reading it with, perhaps, Carol Drinkwater's voice confined to the last chapter.
