Summary

The Sunday Times top 10 best seller

Was an advanced civilisation lost to history in the global cataclysm that ended the last Ice Age? Graham Hancock, the internationally best-selling author, has made it his life's work to find out - and in America Before, he draws on the latest archaeological and DNA evidence to bring his quest to a stunning conclusion.

We've been taught that North and South America were empty of humans until around 13,000 years ago - amongst the last great landmasses on earth to have been settled by our ancestors. But new discoveries have radically reshaped this long-established picture and we know now that the Americas were first peopled more than 130,000 years ago - many tens of thousands of years before human settlements became established elsewhere.

Hancock's research takes us on a series of journeys and encounters with the scientists responsible for the recent extraordinary breakthroughs. In the process, from the Mississippi Valley to the Amazon Rainforest, he reveals that ancient 'New World' cultures share a legacy of advanced scientific knowledge and sophisticated spiritual beliefs with supposedly unconnected 'Old World' cultures. Have archaeologists focused for too long only on the 'Old World' in their search for the origins of civilisation while failing to consider the revolutionary possibility that those origins might in fact be found in the 'New World'?

America Before: The Key to Earth's Lost Civilisation is the culmination of everything that millions of people have loved in Hancock's body of work over the past decades, namely a mind-dilating exploration of the mysteries of the past, amazing archaeological discoveries and profound implications for how we lead our lives today.

Critic reviews

"Hancock's books provide a fascinating, alternative version of prehistory. America Before, detailed and wide-ranging, turns what was myth and legend into a new story of the past." (Daily Mail

Brilliant

Great book full of interesting prehistory. Another worth while read by Graham Hancock exploring the usual prehistory but this time referencing main land America as his point of interest. This highlights another area of prehistory’s advanced civilisations.

interesting evidence based alternative

A great read, full of well evidenced theory and read by a fantastic orator in the author Graham Hancock. I suggest reading some of his earlier work in order to get a full grasp on some of the assumptions as he frequently refers to them.

things keep getting older

I enjoy Mr Hancocks books. I find them insightful and interesting. but best of all they make me think; do we really know our own history.

A must read for any persons who love prehistory

America Before is, in my opinion, Mr Hancock’s best work yet. The detail he goes into and the passion with which he narrates this book make it a compelling and entertaining listen. 10/10

Another great from Hancock.

Yet another well researched and executed book by Grahame Hancock. America before shows us how much damage the so called "Clovis first" model of the America's has done. This book has set a mark for which the Archaeological community needs to catch up to.

Convincing arguement

Presents a strong argument and compelling evidence of a pre-12400BCE civilisation common to us all.
Excellent narration. A good addition to Fingerprints & Magicians Of The Gods.

Excellent book

This is so easy to listen to! Mr Hancock clearly knows his own book and that comes out in his reading. It's very interesting, if you want to know more about where we come from and where we might be going, and easy to understand. Definitely recommended!
One caveat: Mr Hancock's books always have a lot of photos of the artefacts, megaliths etc he talks about, taken by Santha Faiia, his wife, and I fully expected to find a PDF with the book full of photos, and that's not there. Such a shame! I now find myself getting second hand paper books so I can see what he is talking about! Please Audible, add the photos - they will make this book, and Mr Hancock's other books, very much more interesting than they already are!
