Summary

Return to the Alveria Akademy in an all-new dragon fantasy adventure!

Dragon Untameable

Only one person can save the kingdom from utter darkness - but it will take a power she can’t control.

The dragon kingdom of Alveria has enjoyed years of peace under King Lasaro and Queen Kaelan’s reign - until never-ending darkness falls across the land, and ghosts are unleashed from the underworld. As attacks on innocents rise, there’s little the noble dragons can do to protect the people from spirits impervious to magic.

Laini Unclaimed is one of the first to face the terrifying ghosts. After a lifetime of rejection, all the orphan wants is to find her place as an accepted member of society. But when the realm plunges into eternal night, her uncontrollable - unheard-of - power awakens: the power over light and dark.

Despite whispers of suspicion and blame, Laini refuses to accept she’s responsible for the darkness. Under the king’s guidance, she heads to the prestigious Akademy to learn control of this newfound magic. But even the strong Akademy walls may not keep Laini safe, for a young dragon hunter lurks in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to assassinate her.

Now, Laini must discover the source of her powers and banish the darkness covering Alveria - before whispers become a cry for her death.

Dragon Gods

Loyalty will bind them together - or tear them apart.

Nightfall still holds Alveria in its grip. Terrifying ghosts continue to haunt the stricken kingdom, while crops wither in the fields from lack of sunlight. If the light doesn’t return soon, thousands will starve.

But a worse fate awaits the Untameables.

Dragon Family

The only way to save Alveria is to end the war - by any means necessary.

After horrendous losses among their ranks, the Untameables are still reeling, none more than Laini Unclaimed. The battle against the forces of Hel have stripped Laini of those she loves most. Now with Hel closing in, little hope remains to save the reincarnated gods trapped in the underworld, including Tyr, the young man she loves.

Until Laini learns about the Book of Death.

When Queen Kaelan returns from the kingdom of Unger, she brings grave news: the darkness that engulfs the Alverian kingdom has spread worldwide - and Unger has joined with Hel.

Attack is imminent.

Just get past the teen angst

The story could have been amazing. You just have to get past the teen angst. The uncertainty. The guilt. The second guessing. If the author had made the characters a little older and removed all the ridiculous second guessing and angst, it would have been great!

Enjoyable story but to much teen angst.

Good story line but had difficulty wading through and staying attentive during the overdone insecurities.

hard to put down

everytime you think you know what's going to happen next.. and think time for a break, do it. It's not gonna happen how you expected and you'll be back in the race again. A pleasure to read and only questionable word choice repeated a few times. Similar spelling to a more appropriate choice so source could go either way. Over-all, good story, plot progression, twists n' turns to keep you guessing and well fleshed characters. Kudos!

Too much angst

Great overall story however the teen angst and second guessing is waaaaaaayyyyy overdone. Makes it hard to listen to at times when there’s 10 minutes of feeling sorry for themselves. Other than that great storyline and narration.

Impotent Untamables

We untameables are gods. We are strong and skilled, but suck at everything we do. We beat ourselves up about it, but we win in the end. Good story...

I'm done with this

Couldn't even get through book 2. Book 1 was okay. A little slow, too much internal dialog. But book 2 had me so angry and full of anxiety over the lead character- I just couldn't continue.

Those 30 Hours Went Way Too Fast

The three books together are a long listen - 30 hours - but I found myself seeking out opportunities to listen to the story and the time just flew by.

I can't say enough good things about the narration. Despite the multitude of characters, each one had a distinctive voice and cadence and I was able to tell which character was speaking at all times. With audiobooks, poor narration can doom a story and good narration can make it rich and engaging. This recording is firmly in the second camp.

The story premise is unique, but I won't give it away by telling what it is. The plot was interesting and I found myself rooting for all the right people. The only reason I downgraded the overall story is because the storyline bogs down repeatedly as Laini, the protagonist, and Tyr, a dragon hunter, dwell on their feelings far too frequently and for far too long each time. Don't let that stop you from listening to the story, though. The storyline is well worth the slight annoyance. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
