About this listen
A tanker steaming through the deep Northwest Providence Channel of the Bahamas comes across a shocking sight: a lone dinghy carrying Captain Julian Harvey and the body of a young girl. They are all that remain of the ketch Bluebelle, a handsome 60-foot sailing yacht chartered by the Duperrault family of Green Bay, Wisconsin. But their happy family vacation went terribly wrong when, according to Harvey, a violent and unexpected squall smashed the giant main mast, killed Harvey's wife and the others, and sank the boat. Harvey found the child floating dead and, as far as he knows, he is the only survivor. Or is he?
Four days later, just as Captain Harvey is testifying at a Coast Guard hearing about the tragic accident, amazing news of another survivor arrives. Eleven-year-old Terry Jo Duperrault has been found barely alive on a flimsy cork-and-canvas float with no food or water. Harvey takes the news calmly, finishes his testimony, and leaves...to commit bloody suicide.
This is the chillingly detailed inside story of what really happened during that trip and the decades-long courage of the sole survivor of a murderous crime.

Very moving.
What a tragedy and trauma for this child-woman to have gone through. Yet she has come out triumphant with her inner strength and tremendous courage. I wish Tere every blessing for success, peace, and happiness the rest of her days. It's a wonderful book and good narration told with compassion.

interesting but..
it was a little over long for me with some repatition. I also 0ersonally hate when narrators put 9n stutters and speech impediments (but I think its just me!)..
A really interesting story of a lucky and plucky girl and a weird weird 'man'

Alone
This has to be the best book I have ever read. I was there every step of the way with Tete and her family and with Tete more so since the tragity on the sailing boat! Tete seems to be a lovely person and her children and grandchildren are very lucky to have such a loving mum and grandmother. Thank you Here you have given me a lot to take with me and I have told everyone "Alone is a must". Take care with yr family and enjoy the rest of your retirement without the "elephant"! gobsmacked
such an interesting story, so unbelievable what she went through but there was a lot of repetition so I would lose interest and stop listening and end up missing a new part of the story. I would still recommend everyone listening to her story

Could be Better
Would be much better if there was less repetition. Found that some parts were not very interesting and almost boring.

Powerful Story
The survival of this 11-year-old girl defies all the odds and is a tragic and extraordinary story. The book goes into great depth into the events as told by the killer, Tere herself and how the authorities pieced it all together. What the murderer did to his wives, to the Dupperault Fassbender family (especially the children) defies comprehension and beggars all belief; clearly a psychotic maniac. It delves into his character, unique life and past and how he likely killed before and ultimately how he gruesomely ended his life rather than face the consequences after realising one of his victims lived to tell the tale.
It goes into Tere's life before and after the sinking of the Bluebell, how at this time PTSD was not a fully recognised thing and how trauma established itself in her life and how she survived in more ways than one. It also talks about what a remarkable life she's had and how it was a beautiful life worth living. Tere's common sense was beyond her years and her survival instinct knowing what to do while along on a corkboard is a credit to her parents and how she was raised as well as her own will to live. It truly defies all odds to survive 4 days at sea at 11yrs in that unforgiving environment. The fact sharks and dehydration didn't claim this soul is miraculous.

Boring
Gave up after one hour. Lots of dates and times and no story. Just facts. So boring which is a shame as its a facinating story. The narrator has a very monotonous voice which didnt help
