Summary

When Charles Henstock, rector of Thrush Green, moves a mile downhill to the parish of Lulling, his many friends rejoice in his promotion. But an unfortunate skirmish with one of his wealthy parishioners over the Lady Chapel kneelers saddens him.

Excellent Narration!

I am a fan of MIss Read but this particular story reveals the often criticized flaws in the writing. I would also add without revealing anything there is a fair amount of death, illness, and unhappy marriages in this particular book. I, therefore, would not recommend this to anyone feeling down or depressed or in poor health. The uplifting aspects and gentle beauties of the best of her writing are missing in great percentage.
Luckily I got the book in a £3 sale I would have been disappointed to have spent a credit on it.

Lovely Stories

These Miss Read books really are quaint and interesting, I really enjoy going into times past. The only downside is (I have quite a few of these now) they don't give any indication what order they run in so I find myself at times getting a back story!!
