Summary
Sequel to The Consumption of Magic
Nearly a year ago, blinded by grief and betrayal, Sam of Wilds made a desperate decision to follow the Great White into the Dark Woods. Now, he emerges to a world changed.
The City of Lockes is a prison. The King has been locked away in the dungeons. The Kingdom of Verania has fallen, and the Dark wizard Myrin sits on the throne.
But soon after his return, Sam learns of a resistance fighting in his name, led by a courageous knight, a defiant prince, a pissed-off unicorn, and a half-giant who wants to smash everything in sight. If he has any hope of defeating the villains who have taken their home, Sam must face the consequences of his choices - and the friends he left behind.

Truly awful narration
I love this series of books from TJ Klune and strongly recommend them to anyone. Unfortunately, I can't recommend the audio versions. Book 1 was OK but since book 2 the narration has become increasingly annoying. The narrator sounds permanently bored and unable to read full sentences without pausing for inappropriately long pauses, sighs or huffs. I understand it's supposed to embody the main character but it misses the mark by a mile and ruins the entire experience.

TJ always delivers the reader safely.
After the roller coaster of these four books I have been safely delivered to the end. What a ride, laughter tears suspense, amazing characters and a stellar plot! The narration is exceptional and the voices will forever remain with me.

Awful narration, so very disappointing.
T J Klune is one of the writers I buy automatically, hardly even reading the blurbs. I’ve read this series and all the others and loved every minute. On a whim I bought this audiobook and hated it almost at once. The phrasing is all wrong, the emotion is shallow and the characters I love are being ruined. I know this narrator has done the other books so this should have been way, way, way better than it is. I’m almost angry, I’m so disappointed ☹️

YAS GARY
This is a fantastic book. Magic came back and it came back hard. I loved this book, bitter sweet and angsty with all the sass we've come to expect from Sam. I'm not sure if this is my favourite, drawn in first place or what but I certainly enjoyed this book. I'm really looking forward to more. It's hinted at more. Give. Me. More.

Io
VERY, VERY funny.
Characters make this series one of the best, and Michael Lesley brings them to live just right.
Gary is one of my favorites. Narrators' performance of Gary was AMAZING. I had to pause so many times due to my fits of laughter.
Sam - a lite "silly", naive, lost in his own "world"?
Tiggy smash? - NO Tiggy! . . . Wisdom and pure heart.
Ryan Foxheart - a lite "silly", is this a theme?
Dragons - Each with unique "personalities".
Overall, good book, in a great series.
