About this listen

London, 1944. With bombs raining over London, keeping the Battersea Tavern open is no easy feat for owner Winnie Berry - but the community need the warmth and familiarity of the pub more than ever.

After marriage, Maureen Fanning had moved out to Wandsworth with her bad-tempered husband Brancher. But when he loses both his job and their lodgings, the only people who will take them in are her kindly grandparents, Len and Renee. Getting a cleaning job at the Battersea Tavern is the least she can do to pay them back. It would all be fine...if it weren't for Brancher.

Winnie is determined to take timid Maureen under her wing. But when tragedy strikes, it will be up to Maureen to find the strength she didn't know she possessed...

I’ve absolutely loved this 3rd book! I’ve been gripping from the first chapter to the very last. Please Kitty, can we have more? Annie Aldington read this book to perfection.

This is the third and last I believe in the Battersea Tavern series. I read them in order and all three were brilliant. Love these types of books set in the 40s/ WW2 times. Annie Aldington is what makes them brilliant. I’m struggling to listen to anyone else reading the books I listen to apart from Ann Dover who is very similar. The story is of their family lives centred around the tavern and all who drinks in there and what time was like back in the 40s . I have given it four stars as no matter how many time I tried to press give it wouldn’t let me. I Loved it and worth five stars.

I loved books 1 and 2 but would have liked maybe 2 more in the series? we went from 1939 then 1940, then straight to 1944?? It's such a shame, that we didn't hear any more about the characters of David, and Erroll and other characters from books 1 and 2?

beautiful

Excellent series and narration. Telling the story of the women living in the Battersby Pub and their generosity amid the hardships that World War Two brought , and the courage of the people living in Battersby. It’s very sad at times and you question how these brave women kept going through the hardship worry and pain. Highly recommend this series .

Very enjoyable series.
