Summary

Defy the darkness. Defend the light.

Drem and his friends flee the battle at Starstone Lake to warn the Order of the Bright Star. They’ve witnessed horrors they’ll never forget, such as magic warping men into beasts. But worst of all, they’ve seen a demon rise from the dead - making it even more powerful. Now Fritha, the demons’ high priestess, is hunting Drem’s party.

Concealed in Forn Forest, Riv struggles to understand her half-breed heritage. She represents the warrior angels’ biggest secret, one which could break their society. And when she’s found by the Ben-Elim’s high captain, he swoops in for the kill.

As demonic forces multiply, they send a mighty war-host to overthrow the angel’s stronghold. This could decimate the fractured Ben-Elim. And their allies in the Order may be too overwhelmed to send aid - with Fritha and her monstrous beasts closing in. Like heroes of old, Drem and the Bright Star’s warriors must battle to save their land. But can the light triumph when the dark is rising?

A Time of Blood is the spectacular follow-up to John Gwynne's A Time of Dread.

Better to Fight and Fall

My review for this complete trilogy is covered in the last book, Time of Courage.

Another fantastic book from John Gwynne

I have enjoyed all his books to date and this one does not disappoint. The characters are believable and the writing is excellent. Damian Lynch is an excellent narrator and I am always impressed at how well he creates individual and believable voices for each of the characters. I am now waiting for the next in the series. Highly recommended.

A time of Blood indeed

I'm exhausted from the battles in this book, exhausted from the threat to all of the characters.
John Gwynne gets better with each book he writes.

Excellent Read

None of the awkwardness that can happen in a sequel set 100 years later. The narrative flows well. All the twists, turns and surprises that I enjoy.

Dragged it out at the start

Although it is moving the series along nicely, I am getting the impression he is dragging it out a bit to hit the 4 book deal. That being said, I enjoyed it but it seemed awful slow around the 25-50% mark.
He also has a new favorite word "alighted". See how many times it's in there.
Hope it picks up in the third book.

Spoilt by narrator

I'm sorry but I struggled through the first book because of the way it was read and this one as bad. I'm annoyed because the story has great merit which is why I'm struggling through this one, I wish I'd bought the novel instead. I apologise to Damian Lynch I'm sure he's a lovely fellow,
