Summary

When Sarah, struggling to get over tragedy, stumbles across her grandparents' ruined farm, it feels as if the house has been waiting for her. She is drawn to their apparently idyllic way of life and starts to look into her family history - only to learn that her grandfather, Jack, was murdered.

Why has nobody told her?

Sarah becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Gwen and Jack. But are there some family stories that should never be told?

I was hooked!

This was a great listen and I was hooked from the start. I chose it because of the narrator Emma Gregory, who does amazing voices and brings the characters to life. A bad reader can ruin a good book, but Emma makes this one! I enjoy a book that has a good story, a bit of mystery, an unpredictable who done it, and this book has it all. There are a few wearisome bits of dialogue between the main character and her boyfriend at the beginning which could put some off, wondering if we've accidentally wandered into the land of chic lit, but that's soon over and we're into the gritty story, which has some uncomfortable passages.

Brilliant and thrilling

This didn’t disappoint in any way. I love Emma Gregory as a narrator she really draws you in to a story and it’s emotions. The story was so engaging, horrific but totally enthralling. A brilliant listen.

A real page turner

I tend to follow good narrators and this is another great performance by Emma Gregory. She really brought Gwen and her family to life for me and I found myself listening at every opportunity.

It was a gripping story but I was less enthusiastic about Sarah's personal life. Overall a good read I would recommend.

Bought by accident enjoyed immensely.

I'd listened to a series of books by another author that I really liked, that series had the same narrator and somehow I managed to get confused and bought this book thinking it was the same author. What I ended up with was a joyous discovery, this is wonderful book, beautifully written and extremely gritty. It's not the tale of murder and mystery I was expecting rather it is a tale of domestic abuse in the early part of the 1900's.

Had I read the synopsis I would not have bought this book, that said I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Absolutely Gripping

Such an unusual mystery told in two time frames. Emma Gregory brings each character to life. One of the top narrators around so , combined with a top notch storyline, it's unmissable.
