Fun listen
This is a nice twist on the story we have all gotten used to. The narration is excellent

beautiful, mutual admiration
The king is such an interesting character in this story, he knows what he's expected to do but is uncomfortable with the idea of it. He immediately starts to defend Thumbalinas independence when he defends her name to his man servant, making it clear he views her as her own person.
Although he is surprised at Thumbaliners interruption of his meeting he is not angry, but immediately relieved and his respect for her grows profusely as she defends her right to stay independent and not marry someone she doesn't know just because its expected of her.
The beginning of real friendship is seen in this short story, a beautiful, mutual understanding between the two that they each have a right to their own life, to write their own story and in doing so find more respect for the other as they see them grow and thrive.
I liked Virginia Ferguson as a narrator, but there did seem to be a slight audio issue towards the beginning as the volume rose and dipped without me changing anything but it seemed to sort itself out towards the end and didn't detract from the quality if the story being told.
I was given this audiobook for free and have left this review voluntarily.
