A call of a great story
- By Demetra Toula Iliopoulos on 12-09-21
Summary
This gripping new novel from USA Today best-selling romantic suspense author Colleen Coble will leave you on the edge of your seat until the very last chapter.
A wealthy hotel heiress.
Even though Torie Bergstrom hasn’t been back to Georgia since she was 10, she’s happy to arrange a job for her best friend at one of the family properties on Jekyll Island.
A suspicious death.
But when Torie learns that her best friend has drowned, she knows it is more than a tragic accident: Lisbeth was terrified of water and wouldn’t have gone swimming by choice.
A fight for the truth.
Torie goes to the hotel under an alias, desperate to find answers. When she meets Joe Abbott and his daughter rescuing baby turtles, she finds a tentative ally.
The more Torie and Joe dig, the more elusive the truth seems. One thing is clear: Someone will risk anything - even more murder - to keep their secrets buried.

Cluttered, Confusing, Story Line
I usually like Coleen Cobbles stories but this one was contrived and had too many
absurd plot twists. Tried to tie up the loose end at the conclusion of the story but it
didn't work for me. Narration was just Ok. I had to slow the speed down to 0.9x
to be able to understand the dialogue. Main Characters voice was OK but several
of the other voices were awful. All in all, a disappointment.

Very much like her other books, repetitive
I love her books but seems like this book is like the others with the diving attacks and many names like “Ajax” and tiger shark attacks. I feel like I have read it before and disappointed

Great storyline!
As usually Colleen has written a great story! The narrator wasn’t my favorite, though. She did ok with the voices, but in her natural voice as narrator, her voice just didn’t flow well. It sounded too much like I would expect a character acting as a valley girl in a high school movie. It wasn’t awful, just distracting.

Very disappointed
I’ve never felt inclined to write a review before but listen to audiobooks constantly. This one was so terrible, I felt inclined to weigh in. I struggled with the narration (voices of others was hard to listen to, and voice inflection gave the characters a very inauthentic quality). The plot tried to accomplish too much and unsuccessfully brought it all to a close, very clunky and the loose threads had to be spelled out at the end. The relationships and dialogue between the characters was unrealistic, and the text was overwritten with flowery language for no reason. I tried hard to settle in and enjoy the book, but it was painful.

Love love love!
Jekyll Island is a favorite of mine so when I found this book I had to read it. It didn't disappoint. As always, a wonderfully written book that captured the great aspects of the island that my family loves so much. I loved that my daughter could listen with me and I wasn't afraid of inappropriate language or content.
