Summary

Since the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence.

For seven years Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon's side - counseling him from the shadows, healing him, and staving off the worst of his loneliness. Blessed - or cursed - with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him, leading Dillon and his people to believe she is the same wisewoman who served his father.

All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon's life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything - even the wrath of his king - to be with her.

"As in the best audiobooks, it's the joining of Duvall's carefully constructed romance and Potter's consummate voices that yields this excellent production." ( AudioFile Magazine)

Original fantasy historical romance

I loved this novel. Well written and narrated. It was quite different from anything I’ve listened to before which was really enjoyable. It kind of reminds me of Robin Hobbs books in a way. But not so epic.

Hurt comfort historical fantasy at its finest

Loved this book! Characters were all well developed. It was great to consume a story with an actual alpha male with emotional intelligence, instead just broody little boys throwing tantrums! Dylan's a warrior with a temper, but he's adaptable and can master his emotions. He cares about people, I love the relationship he has with his brother and men. Romance side of things made total sense , one of the best friends to lovers / angst / hurt comfort books out there

Utterly sublime a firm favourite

I have enjoyed a few mediocre books lately. And realised how poor they were. Because this book is well written, the characters well rounded, the action riveting and the humorous love affair blissful. The Narrator is perfect, with vast array of voices, and perfect comedic timing. On par with the likes of Alex Wyndham and other great Narrators.
As this is a free book, I will keep it until it is no longer free and purchase it as I’m certain it will be read time and time again. Can’t wait to read the next one.

will she ever get her man!!!!????

it's always interesting to hear an American come across old English word and not say them right. nout kept annoying me... but still a very good accent.... iv not listen to a book like this befor but I really enjoyed it. diffrent from all the shifter books that seem to be around at the minute. one or two inner monologue went on a little but bare able. the story had some twist which keeps it interesting. I normally struggle at the beginning of a book to get I to this but I was engaged from the beginning. and found it refreshing from all the other audible books iv listen to... maybe difficult for some whom do not like an old style of English speaking. if ya catch ma drift. 🤪

Used to Help Me Sleep

Boring. I set it to run for 30-60 minutes each night to lull me to sleep.

Great

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great characters and good twist on the time travel genre. The H was a strong character thankfully and wasn’t too much of hours of explaining

An Engaging Historical Paranormal Romance

I am already a big fan of Dianne Duvall's writing style and have read every book in this series and her Immortal Guardians series. I rated this story 5 stars when I read the Kindle version and am pleased to say this audio version doesn't let the story down.

I was impressed with Kirsten Potter's narration; the pace and tones she used and her performance of the dialogue kept me addicted to this story. I would certainly look out for books narrated by her in the future.

Excellent

I have never read any of this authors books but having listened to this I will seek others out as she spins a enthralling tale that holds the reader or in my case listener captive. It is 04.43 and I have just finished listening to this book unable to stop it to sleep without hearing the end, a truly excellent book.
