About this listen
The former Beatrice Hyde-Clare is having a little trouble adjusting to her new situation. Now installed as the duchess of Kesgrave in elegant splendor in Berkeley Square, she is confounded by the stately residence’s seemingly endless array of rooms.
And every time one of the maids addresses her as "your grace", she flinches. And the butler! Oh, yes, that imposing servant holds her in utter contempt and has no qualms about sharing his opinion with the rest of the staff.
It’s all so wretched.
But just as Bea begins to despair - a bright spot.
A neighboring house has suffered a ghastly tragedy, and although the constable deems it an inadvertent decapitation, she can’t believe anyone could be so careless as to accidentally lose his head.
Determined to discover the truth, the new duchess pays her first social call. Because even if she can’t find her way around her palatial home, she certainly knows her way around a murder.

A fun mystery with great humour
It is always a joy to return to the world of Beatrice Hyde-Clare. The combination of cozy crime, romance, and general frivolity is a winning one.
This book begins with Bea & Kesgrave’s wedding, which is as entertaining as you’d imagine. As usual, we spend quite a long time in Bea’s head to start with. But then we get going with the fun mystery of a decapitated chef!
The story is excellent. The mystery is thoroughly enjoyable, and kept me guessing. I loved seeing Bea and Kesgrave married, and their ongoing banter. And the humour was seriously brilliant in this volume. The story is liberally sprinkled with ridiculousness, in absolutely the best way.
As usual, Jill Smith does an excellent job with the narration. It still takes me a little while to get my ear in, but once I do, it’s great. She does a brilliant job of getting the right expression in, particularly when bringing out the humour! The range of voices does a great job of distinguishing between characters.
Overall, this was an excellent audiobook. With great narration, a fun mystery, much loved characters, and a huge dollop of humour.
I was given a copy of this audiobook, my opinions are my own.

A splendid mystery and fantastic read
Beatrice and the Duke of Kesgrave really set couple goals in this series. Married life has not diminished their charm nor has it thwarted Beatrice's penchant for investigating. A fantastic read that took me completely by surprise when the killer was revealed.
I loved the narrator who did a brilliant job of male and female voices.

Totally addictive.
This series is totally addictive. Bea and Kesgrave are fantastic, I love their witty banter and their love for each other. This book has a clever mystery, delightful characters, and an unputdownable story. Jill Smith’s narration is flawless.
