Summary
A gripping new mystery from the author of The Wild Inside, set in the magnificent and brutal terrain of Glacier National Park
In the darkening days of autumn, a murdered journalist's body is discovered in a remote region near the Canadian border. Before she was found, Anne Marie Johnson had been writing an article about a canine research program that uses trained dogs to track scientific data. She was last seen with a man named Reeve Landon, whose chocolate Lab was one of the subjects of the piece. Now he's the prime suspect.
Back in the FBI's regional office in Montana, investigator Ali Paige is not officially assigned to the case since the crime was committed outside federal land. But Landon happens to be an ex-boyfriend and the father of her child. He calls Ali for help while he is being questioning, but soon he goads her to find out what really happened to Anne Marie.
Intensely private and paranoid, Landon ventures deep into in the woods to avoid being arrested. But even as he evades the detectives, Landon secretly feels the whole thing is somehow deserved, a karmic punishment for the horrifying crime he committed as a young boy. As for Ali, she has only one objective in mind: to save her daughter from the pain of abandonment she endured as a child.
As the clock ticks and the noose tightens around Landon's neck, Ali isn't sure how far she will go to find out the truth. And what if truth is not something she wants to know?

Better than the previous books in the series.
Well-narrated and quite interesting. Not as annoying as previous titles in the series in terms of characters’ behaviour and plotting- in fact, I liked this quite a lot.
I particularly liked the descriptions of the natural environment, which, as in the previous books in the series, are well done.
However, I do wish the writer would move away from having all the law enforcement personnel in one tiny community having drama in their lives as a plot device. It’s too ridiculous- who’s next - Herman having a brother on the run for bank robbery, or Shackley’s whole family being kidnapped?
With a shift in focus, this could move from being an okay series, to becoming excellent.

Chefs Kiss Perfection!
You know a book is truly great when you want to fast forward every few minutes because you're too excited and curious to find out what happens next!
Two of my favourite narrator's read this book so my ears were in audio heaven! They made a great book even greater!
I love the way this author writes and the story is detailed, exciting and believable, everything that one would want from a book!
I'm definitely going to devour everything that this author has ever wrote!

Great listen
Less suspense but great exploration of characters in this series. Leaves me wanting more like this with no gratuitous violence and lurid content. Great listen want to visit Montana!

Better than anticipated
Based on the summary I decided I’d give this a miss, having read the previous three novels by this author. However, having run out of things to listen to I decided to give it a go. A storyline I hadn’t come across previously added interest. Worth giving it a go.

Narration
This was the best of all 4 books. I listened to them in a row. All good even as stand alone but this was better...

Too much introspection.
The story could have been really good but was spoiled by the author’s focus on childhood traumas and introspection. It doesn’t seem possible that so many of the main characters in this series could have such traumatic pasts. It became tedious.

Great books!
Loved all 4 off the Glacier series. Wasn’t sure about the format of the last 2 at first, but then really appreciated listening to both characters take on the timeline. Hope there are more to come!

Enjoyable listen
Another interesting book from Carbo. Keeps you guessing right until the end. Ramble’s a bit in places but not enough to say it was tedious. Hopefully Carbo will carry on with the series and these characters. Well worth a listen.
