Married for eight years, with no children to help fill her days, Heidi Troyer cooks up the idea of teaching classes in the art of Amish cuisine in her home in Holmes County, Ohio. But it is a recipe for drama when five very different men and women answer the advertisement.
Summary
In the fifth and final novel of the Kauffman Amish Bakery series, three young women are about to change their lives. Lizzie Anne and Samuel have decided to get married, and Lindsay is about to be baptized in the Amish faith and is courting Matthew. While Katie Kauffman is happy for her friends who seem to have settled their futures, she is also finding herself something of a fifth wheel.
When Lindsay’s sister Jessica returns to Bird-in-Hand, she finds that Jake Miller has moved on with his life. He lost hope that Jessica would ever be satisfied to settle in rural Pennsylvania and takes comfort in becoming close friends with Katie. However, it’s not an easy road as Jake is Mennonite and Katie has just been baptized in the Amish faith. Her father forbids them to see each other, intent that his daughter marry an Amish man.
A Season of Love is filled with surprising twists that will grip you to the very last words. As the stories of your favorite Amish community draw to a close, join Lindsay, her friends, and all the people of Bird-In-Hand for one last volume.

Narration disappointing
Love this book. I only wish the narrator was someone who researched the culture. Words mispronounched was bad enough but her overly enthusiastic, bubbly tone is very not Amish like and becomes irritating.you have to remind yourself this is Amish fiction. And if you have listened to other Amish books by people that researched the culture, like Beverly Lewis narrators you would understand what I mean.
It makes the book lose it's Amish flavor.this book is better leaving in paper form.

The most lightweight of the series
As I have been struggling with a painful injury, sometimes I want something light. I read the previous books in this series, and though they are light, I felt there was some substance to them.
This book featured a young girl named Katie, who felt an immediate and never changing attraction to a Menonite young man who works temporarily at the Kaufmann bakery, doing carpentry work. Though Jake is not Amish, his grandparents are, and he is close to them. He, too, feels the incredible attraction, which never wavers, despite the two being forbidden to spend any time together.
Jake's character is a good one, but Katie is superficial and silly. The conclusion is satisfying if you just want a Happy Ever After solution. Yet, I found the book pat and not as well done as the others. I did not expect great literature, but, as the book was not very expensive, I spent an extra credit on it. I like seeing series to the end, but don't think I will read any more.
This is a perfectly fine series for a young teen, who is being guided away from all the vampire and graphic stuff out there. One does get a nice glimpse into Amish life, which can be of interest.
I found the narrator has a pleasant voice, but did find her a bit cloying after a while. I can't say I didn't finish this, but will certainly not read it a second time. I was able to read it and forget for a few hours that I really hurt.
As with so many, or most, actually, Audible recordings, I found the narration too slow. I'm really glad that I can speed up books without sacrificing voice quality. Maybe others need people to read slowly, but it drives me nuts!
