Summary
Along with his volunteer work at the local fire department, running his Amish farm keeps Jamie Riehl busy. He barely has time to eat at the family table, never mind find someone to date. But when he meets Kayla Dienner, he is smitten.
Kayla tries hard to deny her attraction to Jamie. After all, she's spent the last year discouraging her younger brother, Nathan, from becoming a firefighter. The death of their older brother in a fire a year ago is fresh in her mind - she can't bear the idea of putting her heart on the line every time the sirens blare.
Then tragedy strikes, and Jamie wants to extinguish any flame between him and Kayla. Can Kayla set aside her own fears to save the love she was determined to deny?

I have been reading Amish books for 20 years and this is one of the worst. this Amish family is like no other is that I have ever read about. the story goes on and on and the heroine is a self-centered woman. I would not recommend this to anyone.

A Place at Our Table
I am listening to this series a second time. As before as always enjoy the Amish series. It has been a while and had not remembered the full story.
There is something that I would like to share about the narration. Have had to learn this on my own. When the voice might seem spoken a bit fast or too slow, it is time to check out the voice with the bottom voice speed. Testing one setting one way or another. Most stories are set correctly, but some do need an adjustment. Some narrators are purposely slower. If you change it one setting either way to the liking of your ear. I had to learn this on my own. Hopefully this hint might help others. Now off to start “Room on the Porch Swing”. Book 2

So repetitive and boring
For the first time I considered not finishing a book. I finished it because that's me. The book just went on and on about nothing. A stern discussion with the self centered, miserable girl friend should have been part of the first chapter, then there could have been an actual plot and a story worth reading. The reader was not good either; no inflection, no understanding of the Penn Dutch words or proper pronunciation, no ability to allow for character differentiation, just monotone on and on, boring! Worst book ever!
