Story
When Fitzwilliam Darcy makes an impetuous offer of marriage to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, he is convinced they have as good a chance as any for a harmonious life together. That is, until an overheard conversation changes everything, and Darcy realizes he is now joined in perpetuity to a woman who loathes the very sight of him. Elizabeth Bennet's expectations for matrimonial accord were never very high, having accepted Mr. Darcy's proposal in a fit of pique, not love. Still, she is determined to make the best of her situation. But life at Pemberley is not at all what she imagined.

Nor, it has to be said, does anyone else. Set in Newmarket and London, A Rational Proposal is the first in the Furze House Irregulars series featuring women of spirit, women of courage, women who don't see why, in this male-dominated Regency era, they should not also play their part in bringing wrongdoers to justice.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that the disastrous first meeting of Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet at the Meryton Assembly provided each with a ready-made set of prejudices to apply to the other. But when a horrific rural accident reveals Darcy to be a man of active, intelligent benevolence, and Elizabeth, in the absence of her appalling family, to be an extraordinary lady of courage and decision - then, surely, the course of true love will run smoothly. When he went to India to fight Britain’s enemies, she made him promise to write her along with Georgie regularly. There wasn't anything improper, since Georgiana and she had sworn to be sisters. A good story ruined
I have listened to the first two books in this series multiple times, but the audio quality in this book makes it impossible for me to listen to again. The echo literally gives me a headache. This is nothing against the narrator herself. I just don’t understand how they recorded a 24+ hour story and didn’t notice or address how bad it sounded. Was it something in editing? Is it correctable? I was gifted this copy and I was so excited. When I started listening, I thought it was my car’s speakers. But it sounded the same with headphones and using my iPad’s speakers. Then I switched to another book and it was fine. The story itself is good (maybe a little longer than necessary). I, of course was more interested in the Darcys than the Stantons. I feel like the Stantons got a lot of attention. Catherine (Kitty), Mary, and Anne get some story time too. So does Jane…. I won’t say much about that.
Overall, I liked the story but I’m more than a little disappointed and wish it could be re-recorded.

Weird distracting echo
I love this series so much! I am really not a fan of this narrator, but I can tolerate her enough to listen because of how good the books are. I only gave this audiobook three stars overall because there is an obnoxious echo in these recordings that make it hard to listen to.
