Summary

A conversation that changes everything...

What if Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy spoke honestly to each other in Kent and clarified any misconceptions prior to his making his proposal? What would happen if Mr. Bennet made an ill-fated attempt to resolve the issue of the entail only to create a much bigger problem for his family and Mrs. Bennet were even more of a shrew than in canon? What if Mr. Bennet had a secret reason to encourage the couple to marry quickly and before returning home? Will they ever be able to overcome the resentment that results from Mr. Bennet's manipulations or from Mrs. Bennet's subsequent behaviors?

Join our dear couple as they find happiness together sooner than in canon but still have to fight against outside influences that seek to destroy it before and after their wedding. A story where responsibility is accepted by some and shirked by others, leading to resentment that requires effort to overcome. Will it be enough?

please can we have more from this author

one if the very best P&P sequals I have listened to. Enthralling fro start to finish, loved every second. Brilliant narration & writing, would thoroughly recommend.

Disappointingly soppy

The plot was much more about the Bennett’s shortcomings as parents, and consequences to their relationship with their children, rather than the focus being on Darcy and Elizabeth and their journeys’ of self discovery and each other. The bits about D & E that are included were rather sickly sweet; not to my taste i’m afraid. Stevie Zimmerman was her usual fabulous self, meaning the narration was excellent, even though the plot and characters were somewhat disappointing.

I wanted to like this...

I have been stewing over this book for a couple of days after finishing it and trying to put my finger on why exactly this book fell flat for me. This review will contain spoilers.

I really liked the book up until Elizabeth and Darcy got married. It felt like the Elizabeth and Darcy we all know and love, and the storyline seemed like a realistic divergence from P&P. My one point of contention was how the Bingleys turned into cartoon villains, but that was the only thing.

However, after their marriage, several passages felt like it was simply a retelling of events instead of a telling of events. It was "and then this sister got married to this dude" in a way that felt like a random by-comment that didn't really do anything for the story.

Another thing I had a hard time digesting was Elizabeth's determination to be the victim in relation to her parents. She definitely had reason to feel the way she did, and the storyline would not have been out of place today, but it just felt extremely jarring and odd to read in a P&P variation. At least I found it so, though I imagine it would be a nice facet of the story to other readers.

All in all, I was left feeling unfulfilled by something I initially really liked, which is a shame. I do think that is a me-problem though, and not necessarily a book-problem, as the book was well-written and mostly coherent - just with themes that felt off to me.

A interesting plot

An easy to listen to story, with lovely narration, a lively plot and a lot happening, but at a good pace.
