Summary

Mild-mannered sheep farmer Albert Stark is fed up with the harsh life of the American frontier, where it seems everything and anything can kill you: Duels at high noon. Bar-room brawls. Poisonous snakes. Tumbleweed abrasions. Something called 'toe-foot'. Even a trip to the outhouse. Yes, there are a million ways to die in the wild, wild West, and Albert plans to avoid them all.

Some people think that makes him a coward. Albert calls it common sense. But when his girlfriend dumps him, Albert decides to fight back - even though he can't shoot, ride, or throw a punch. Fortunately, he teams up with a beautiful gunslinger who's tough enough for the both of them. Unfortunately, she's married to the biggest, meanest, most jealous badass on the frontier. Turns out Albert has just discovered a million and one ways to die in the West.

Actually entertaining

Jonathan Frakes was a great choice for this audiobook. It’s quite entertaining and fills in some gaps from the movie.

Entertaining

This audiobook was just as funny as you'd expect from Macfarlane: irreverent and sometimes crude, it brought current humour to the Wild West. It really sounded like the script of a movie, or a comedy show - as you might expect from the author - rather than containing any deeply literate prose, which was just what I wanted after a couple of heavier going books! Finished it in a few days (ps don't listen with small children around, there's not a lot of bad language, but it's often shouted!)

Hilariously stupid fun.

I had my doubts when I saw Johnathon Frakes was narrating as I expected to only hear Will Riker’s voice however I was happily proved wrong within minutes. The narration was perfect for the story and all voices, swear words and outlandish scenarios were brought to life beautifully and with great comic effect. I’ll be looking to see if Johnathon has done any more audio books. As for the story, if you like any of Seth’s other work, from Family Guy, Ted, The Orville etc then rest assured you will find plenty of laughs in this book. I don’t recommend driving whilst listening to Johnathon reading the initial sex scene between one of the characters and the dirty cowboy, I had to pull over and wait for the tears of laughter to dry! Highly recommended book
