About this listen

Get into the spirit of Christmas with the follow up to Julia William’s charming hit Last Christmas.

With four children, a Christmas cookbook to write, and her mum suffering from dementia, Cat Tinsall has plenty to juggle. When her eldest daughter, Mel, starts going off the rails, Cat has even more on her plate.

Pippa Holliday adores her family, although often finds her hands full. When Dan is involved in a terrible accident, Pippa’s world is suddenly turned upside down.

Balancing her job as a school teacher with twins and her step-son Steven, isn’t easy for Marianne North. With her husband’s ex causing trouble, life is getting even trickier.

As Cat, Pippa and Marianne help each other through a difficult year, they’re all hoping for a much brighter Christmas.

Great, easy listening

I loved this tale of village life. Its very Archers like and extremely listenable. Hopefully gets continued in future books.

Nice to hear, but why start here?

Julia William's Hope Christmas books are unashamed feel good Christmas reads, and I hold my hand up to re-reading Last Christmas each December (with a mince pie of course). We've got the rest of the year to read the grown-up and serious stuff.

So whilst it's good to have 2 of the series recorded for Audible (this and the later Coming Home for Christmas), why on earth not start at the beginning? One reviewer said this book wasn't that Christmassy.. Fair enough. You have to start with the original book, Last Christmas, meeting Cath and Noël Tinsall (yes, I know..) and their family to be able to realise the series follows a few families in the mythical village of Hope Christmas.

This is a light, enjoyable book but if you want it to make sense, download Last Christmas to your Kindle and read that first. That's unless Audible arranges to record it.. Soon, please?!

A merry little christmas

This book was OK, but unsatisfying. The narrator had a nice voice, but its a shame she had to use a Devon accent, because shes not really very good at it and it detracted from the story. The bloke on the bike was a bit weird, maybe I missed some hidden meaning. Don't think ill try another Julia Williams, think I'll stick to Milly Johnson

Not much about Christmas

I thought that this would be a good programme to listen to in the run up to Christmas but it was not as festive as I had expected. I enjoyed it in parts. The characters were rounded and convincing but the narrative was rather obvious. Worst of all, the tone was overly polite. Possibly due, in part, to the way it was read - as if to children at times. The over performance of characters' dialogue and unconvincing accents grated on me. I made this choice in haste so perhaps this was not really going to be for me.
