Summary
A lawyer attempts to solve a murder and prove her own innocence in this pacy, atmospheric tale.
She said yes to a dinner invitation, and now she's a murder suspect...
When an old university friend invites Finn Fitzpatrick to speak at a conference at her alma mater, Finn reluctantly agrees. Now working as a solicitor with a side interest in investigation, Finn is busy with her own troubles but feels she can't say no to her former law school classmate. Even though she has no idea why she's been invited to the conference, or to the exclusive dinner in the College President's private dining room afterwards.
Then, three days later, a body is discovered in the College grounds, and everyone who was at the President's dinner is a murder suspect. Including Finn.
Finn is determined to find the killer, and to clear her name. But, as she starts to look into her fellow dinner guests, she unearths a slew of dark secrets, bitter rivalries and hidden agendas. Will Finn let sleeping dogs lie, or risk it all to uncover the truth?

A Lesson in Storytelling!
Great to hear Finn Fitzpatrick back in action in this super sequel from Catherine Kirwan. Eileen Walsh’s well crafted narration brings both the characters and vivid imagery to life. A great combination making for a great story well told.

Excellent writing, stories and atmospherei
Catherine Kirwan’s three Finn Fitzpatrick novels so far are really excellent, though I have my doubts that a Cork solicitor could realistically engage in the sort of sleuthing that Finn engages in!

Thriller in Academia
You will know the topography of Cork, all the best coffee shops, and the UCC campus in particular having read this book. A great yarn, a genuine believable character/solicitor/investigator in Finn Fitzpatrick and interesting characters from all over the country and down under. The beginning is a bit slow as the murder scene around UCC is laid out. But then it takes off into a satisfying read, addressing themes such as the legal process, the Gardai, adoption, international corruption along the way.

Excellent as always
I loved the trio down memory lane, it was interesting to hear the changes to the campus described as if by a tour guide but as an ex UCC girl, I was back there again, walking every step with Finn.

Boring!!
I returned this book, it may very well have improved if I'd stuck with it but it was so boring I couldn't engage with any of the characters, couldn't keep up with who was who and found I didn't care who had killed the guy and I did try. Don't get the marvellous reviews but that is often the case

Very disappointing
I found this book to be quite dull. . It focussed on minute unimportant details that became very tedious and boring. The style of writing so many tiny chapters each ending in a cliff hanger had the opposite effect - I didn’t want to know any more. This was a book club recommendation otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered reading to the end,
