Summary
The comedian and star of Catastrophe's devastatingly moving memoir about his young son's death.
In this devastating, beautiful and deeply moving memoir of the loss of his son, Rob Delaney explores what life really means, and why it matters.
When you're a parent and your child gets hurt or sick, you not only try to help them get better but you also labour under the general belief that you can help them get better. That's not always the case though. Sometimes the nurses and the doctors can't fix what's wrong. Sometimes children die.
Rob's beautiful, bright, deeply alive son Henry died. This is the story of what happens when you lose a child, and everything you discover about life in the process. Why does he feel compelled to talk about it, to write about it, to disseminate information designed to make people feel something like what he felt? What his wife feels? What his other sons feel? Done properly or well, it will hurt them. Why does he want to hurt people?
Because, despite the death of his son, Rob still loves people. For that reason, he wants them to understand.

Beautiful, heartfelt, heartbreaking
I listened to this book mostly whilst holding my nearly one year old to sleep in the night, listening to this I held her tighter.
This book is raw, the pain is visceral but it’s beautiful.
It is a celebration of a wonderful little boy and of love.
I cried and laughed throughout.
I was so grateful to Rob too for praising the NHS and social care within this and highlighting the issues they face.
I would recommend this book to anyone.

Extraordinary - can’t recommend highly enough
I have absolutely no idea how you manage to write such an incredible book after such a terrible tragedy. The utter devotion of Henry’s family to him, and his to them, shines out. Honestly the most moving, heartbreaking, yet life-affirming book I have experienced. Can’t recommend highly enough. Rob Delaney, you have done your beautiful boy so proud.

no ordinary book
this book is filled with sadness, anger, love and joy and will probably stay with me forever. Often authors will tell a story about those they love who have died and it will be sad yet beautiful. This book records the absolute pain they Rob felt and continues to feel follow the death of his 2 year old son, Henry. I can't recommend this book highly enough. and when you start crying 5 minutes in and wonder why you decided to listen to his story, just stick with it because you'll be crying 20 minutes later again.
Grief is really difficult and ilfe is beautiful and Rob is honest enough to spill his and his family's guts onthe table so show you.
