Editor reviews

Distinguished horse trainer Mark Rashid shares his philosophy that horse training should be rooted in compassion and communication. He empowers listeners with techniques to train horses that may have been previously mistreated or misunderstood, embedding the information in amusing stories. The message is clear: Force is never necessary in horse training. A change in perspective and approach may be all that’s needed to transform a problem animal’s attitude. Mike Chamberlain’s genial delivery captures the feel-good spirit of Rashid’s teachings, making it easy to digest the valuable information.

Summary

Learn why your problem horse is not a lost cause with helpful tips from an internationally acclaimed trainer.

In A Good Horse Is Never a Bad Color, Mark Rashid continues to share his talent for training horses through communication rather than force. Rashid uses humorous, feel-good stories to relate his techniques of teaching horses by examining their view of the world. This book is a must-have for compassionate horse trainers and owners. Tales of Arabs, appaloosas, and paints - mistrusted and mistreated because of their breed - will give listeners a new perspective on these breeds and others. This new edition features added introductory notes for each chapter that contribute to a better understanding of Rashid’s philosophy and methods.

Another fantastic book from Mark Rashid

If you could sum up A Good Horse Is Never a Bad Color in three words, what would they be?

Inspiring, wise, warm

What other book might you compare A Good Horse Is Never a Bad Color to, and why?

Horses Never Lie

What about Mike Chamberlain’s performance did you like?

The narrator's performance was OK, and I definitely prefer him to some of the other narrators of Mark Rashids books, but he was a tiny bit stilted. It didn't detract from enjoying the book, or the quality of the content, however a more skilled narrator could have made this one of those magical audiobooks that you feel empty when they're over.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes absolutely! I do with all Mark Rashid's books. I always finish them within a day or two, and then immediately want to run out and spend time with horses!

Any additional comments?

With this book in particular, you hear a lot of stories about the Old Man who started off MR's own journey with horses. The author mentions the Old Man a few times, but always briefly, in his previous books, but you know that if he ever went into detail about the Old Man it could potentially be something really special, and this book lives up to all that promise and more. A really special and personal book from MR, it can't fail to touch you as well as teach you. I'll be listening to it again and again.

Just a beautiful, informative story.

I wasn’t sure when I started this book, but I’m so, so glad I carried on with it. Having a huge passion for horses and seeing what we do to them, this book helped me remember just how kind people can be with them and how important it is for us to understand them so much better. Just a beautiful story.

Good horse

How I would love to go to a clinic by Mark. Enjoyed this book and reconfirmed his excellent empathetic views of horse training and how it applies to people who also never have a bad colour when they are good. Going to listen to another Rashid now
