Summary

Comedian and TV and radio host Frank Skinner talking to his biggest audience yet - God.

A Comedian's Prayer Book. The title is a worry, isn't it?

God is a tough audience as far as audible response is concerned, but at least you don't have to explain the references. In this collection of prayers, much-loved comedian, broadcaster and radio host Frank Skinner has tried to retain the bare candour of the rehearsal-room improvisation - to show what faith feels like, from the inside - but infused it with all the production values required to make it a passable public entertainment. In it are his convictions, his questions, his fears, his doubts, his elations - all presented in an eavesdropper-friendly form.

Hell, judgement, atheism, money, faith and the X-Men all feature: it's a bit like reading the Bible, except you only get one side of the conversation and all the jokes are left in.

Beautiful, intimate and funny. Loved every second of it. Short and sweet. Just listen to it, it's not even 2 hours long, a little treat

An intellectual’s take on the catholic faith.

Frank Skinner’s Analysis of fears interpreting ( and living) his faith provides an insight into how viable the catholic faith is in the modern world.
A very good listen. For everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed it as initially a casual read, then got into it and finished in one go.

Not what I expected

I am a big fan of Frank Skinner, so when I heard he had a new book I pre ordered and couldn't wait to hear what this witty genius had come up with this time. At first I didn't know what to make of this book and I taught that it was a parody, but when it dawned on me it was actually a very honest thoughtful selection of actual conversations (prayers) with the "big man in the sky" I found it very gripping and listened straight through to the end. This book gives the reader/listener a lot of food for thought. It did make me laugh in places but more often it made me think about how I felt when I pray. I recommend giving this title a try as it's difference makes it a tonic for the tired readers soul. My only criticism is it was too short.

I found Frank's perspective very interesting, funny and insightful. I'm not religious myself but thoroughly enjoyed listening.

Brave

In a western society teaming with atheism, this was a happy discovery. An unapologetically childlike tackling of the uncool’ subject of faith and religion. The book is personal, thoughtful and even on this deeply serious subject, still funny.

Needs breaking into chapters

Deeply unhelpful that the whole thing is a single recording with no chapter demarcations. Makes it hard to remember how far in you’d got!
