I have never fit well in compartments. Whether it is my taste in literature, music, people, politics or worldview. This line-crossing is never more true than in my own writing. I love telling stories that take small gems of ideas and see them through the eyes of unique and quirky characters. I have written all my life. As a child, writing was an escape from a challenging home life. As a newspaper reporter, writing and photography were my ways of exploring the world. Now it is my way of trying to make sense of an increasingly crazy and scary world, and to offer both my thoughts and sometimes just my humor. Through the years since my newspaper days, I have worked as a Desktop Publisher, a pre-press expert at a print shop, a web designer, a technical writer, a web developer and now a developer. My wife and I raised two incredible daughters and through those years, I kept the fiction writing going, but mostly on the backburner any my desire to write more and deeper never completely disappeared. Somewhere, somehow, I passed my love of travel and a spark of creativity that grew into roaring, passionate flames in both of my daughters. They returned the favor by reigniting my own creativity. Jessie, the youngest, is our traveller, diver, eco-tourism guide, activist and paramedic. Jamie, our eldest, is a prolific and creative artist. It was Jamie who knew of my desire to return to writing fiction and who challenged me to begin writing in earnest again. My first volume, Songs of a Befuddled Muse, is the direct result of her pushing me to reach inside for my creativity again. I owe her a huge debt of gratitude both for that and for her help with the many drawings and tattoos that enhance this book and this website.
