Upreet Dhaliwal is a retired Director-Professor who spent decades at the University College of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi, India. She trained as an ophthalmologist, and spent the happiest years of her life as one. When she became a medical teacher in 1994, it added value to her life, but things got vastly more interesting when she (re)discovered the humanities. Bringing the humanities into health professions education has been a source of great joy and learning, and much of her latest work has centered around poetry, narratives, and Theatre of the Oppressed as applied to health professions education. She is a fierce champion of the humanities in medicine and believes that they are key to reminding people of their – and others' - humanity. She is Editor of a health humanities journal called Research & Humanities in Medical Education – or RHiME. RHiME is an online-only, open-access, peer-reviewed journal (www.rhime.in). Initiated in 2014, it is still going strong thanks to the selfless effort of a handful of fabulous people and practically no finances.
