Susie Drougas joined Back Country Horseman in 1985. It was a perfect fit for her love of horses and mountains. For her day job she has been a court reporter for over 30 years, but on the weekends you'll find her and her husband in the high country with their stock. With trail closures and lack of funding for the Forest Service, Susie and her husband spend many hours clearing trails, packing in planks and camps for the other volunteer workers. Pack Saddles & Gunpowder is the first in a series. Susie realized that people while may be familiar with horseback riding, they were not with high mountain riding. Often she was asked if she and her husband packed in people for money. And far too often she heard how hard horses were on trails and were destroying the terrain. Her novel is an adventure in the rugged mountains of Washington state with the tenants of Leave No Trace and Education of horsemen woven into a high paced, suspenseful, page turner novel. This book will put you in the saddle and when you're done, you'll be ready for your next ride in book two, Mountain Cowboys. Look for it in March 2015.
