Born in South West Africa, at that time only a country without a name – now Namibia – Stephan Bellesini is the descendant of an ancestor who escaped the Nazi invasion of Poland and the region that we know as Ukraine. Stephan is the descendant of the only family member who successfully escaped from Birkenau camp, where he was a prisoner-of-war. This ancestral escapee’s family sadly found their last resting place in the Auschwitz concentration camp complex. Although a child of many countries, the author is an ardent US patriot, educated in screenwriting, film directing and animation. He derives his greatest joy from working with his mother, sister and dearest friends to create fantastic worlds and memorable characters. The Holocaust, still fresh in his grandparents’ memory, and the first moon landing less than two decades later, colored his family’s later retellings to the children born to this surviving family. As a child, he reveled in these tales and often wondered if people could one day live on the moon or even other planets to escape war. Against this background, the idea of Diplomat of Mars was born.
