I’m obsessed with unusual, overlooked stories, forgotten parts of history, quirky trivia and strange facts that make you go “Hmmm…” In my first book, “The Cats of Ireland," I shared how both cats and the Irish share a fondness for breaking the rules and bringing a touch of magic to everyday life. I also explained how cats have influenced every aspect of Irish culture and history. I’m interested in so many things that my greatest problem is deciding what to write about next… If you’d like to tell me what books you’d like to read, you can reach me at plainscribespress at gmail dot com. Some ideas I’m considering for new books include a short book on the history of the Claddagh ring. I’m wondering if people might enjoy that story of romance and far-away places. It might make a thoughtful gift to include with a Claddagh ring, or share with a friend who proudly wears a Claddagh. Or, maybe I should write a book about how even though Ireland is only ⅔ the size of the state of Maine, its feisty inhabitants have had a gigantic impact on the entire world. I’m thinking of calling it “Don’t Mess With Those Irish!” On the other hand, I also considered writing fictional stories about people in history and their cats… I might write of the 7-year-old immigrant boy from Poland who hid his beloved cat in a basket of clothes on a ship to Ellis Island and what happened when they were found out. What about the haughty Russian duchess who shared words of endearment and smidgens of caviar under the tablecloth with a lazy old ginger tom at boring banquets--at the Tsar’s palace? Have you ever wondered if domestic cats tell stories about heroic tiger ancestors to their tiny kittens? -- Would you like to know such tales?
