Plum McCauley is the author of two award-winning novels. Plum prepared for her future career as a writer by immersing herself in books at a very young age. Looking back, she realizes she skipped the entire Young Adult genre, moving straight from Nancy Drew mysteries to those of Agatha Christie and Georgette Heyer. At twelve, she began to read Shakespeare's plays and devoured Robert K. Massie's "Nicholas and Alexandra" the summer before seventh grade. Given her early reading interests, in college it was only natural to major in English and minor in history. Plum then furthered her literary studies in graduate school, acquiring an M.A. in literature with a concentration in Romanticism. She wrote her thesis on the Romantic poet Wordsworth. Many years later, after a peripatetic work life and the drafting of much fiction, her literary efforts began to gel. Plum published her first novel, "It All Started with a Bicycle," a middle grade mystery/adventure which drew on her early love of the mystery genre. Her second work, the novella "Worthy of Prometheus," was inspired by a reference in the Iliad to Hephaestus' servants--female automata that he had fashioned out of gold. These golden gals perform a crucial role in her novella which Plum hopes will appeal to the fantasy-reading environmentalist crowd. She is currently working on her third novel.
