Matt Johnson writes from experience having served as a soldier and Met police officer for nearly 25 years. In 2018, after just two years as a published author, he was voted at #22 in the WH Smith list of all-time best crime writers. Matt's first novel was the 2016 John Creasey CWA Dagger listed 'Wicked Game', which was also listed by Amazon UK as the highest-rated rising-star novel of that year. Following on from the success of this novel, two further books in the series - Deadly Game and End Game - were released in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Wicked Game and Deadly Game both entered the top 10 Amazon (all books) in both the UK and Australia. Wicked Game as an audiobook peaked at #1. Crow 27, Matt's fourth novel was inspired by a series of deaths at Deepcut army training barracks and was published in 2022 In 2023, his first non-fiction work No Ordinary Day was published by Ad Lib. No Ordinary Day was endorsed by Lee Child and reveals the truth behind the 1984 murder in London of WPC Yvonne Fletcher, one of the greatest tragedies in UK policing history. TV Drama rights have been acquired by Tiger Aspect, the makers of Peaky Blinders. Matt is an Expert Reviewer for LoveReading UK and is represented by Broo Doherty (DHH Literary Agency), Emily Hayward-Whitlock (The Artists Partnership) and Kaye Freeman (Andromeda Talent). He is patron to UK charity, Forces On-Line. He is a founder member and co-chair of CRIME CYMRU the Wales Crime Writers collective.
