Lisa Marie Basile is an award-winning author, poet, and health journalist with a Masters's degree in Writing from The New School; previously, she studied literature and psychology as an undergraduate at Pace University. As a writer, she explores writing, lineage, the body, trauma, and place. She is the founding editor of Luna Luna Magazine. She’s written a few books of poetry, including Andalucia (The Poetry Society of New York, 2012), Apocryphal (Noctuary Press, 2014), and Nympholespy (Inside the Castle, 2019), which was a finalist in the 2017 Tarpaulin Sky Book Awards. She’s also written a few books of nonfiction, including Light Magic for Dark Times, The Magical Writing Grimoire, and City Witchery. Other works can be seen in Seal Press’ critically-acclaimed Burn It Down anthology, Best Small Fictions (selected by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Robert Olen Butler), and Best American Experimental Writing 2020. Lisa Marie is currently writing a book of autofiction for Clash Books. Her essays and other work can be found in The New York Times, Catapult, Narratively, Bust, Entropy, Bustle, Best American Poetry, and more. Lisa Marie has read live at hundreds of forums and reading series, and has taught writing workshops or led panel discussions at Manhattanville College, Columbia University, Emerson College, Pace University and more. As a health journalist, community moderator, and patient advocate, her work can be found in Healthline, MDLinx, HealthCentral, Sleep Foundation, WebMD, GoodRx, and more. She is a Leadership Council member at Health Union/WeGo Health, where she was also a 2022 awards finalist for her research and creative work in health advocacy.
