Born and raised in Long Island New York, Kerin Harvey is the youngest child with three older brothers. She had a great childhood full of adventure with both friends and family; the world has always been her playground. Born with a natural affinity for art and engineering, her entrepreneurial spirit drove her seek a trade school through her high school, earning a Technical Certification in Fashion Design. Following high school, she furthered her studies at Pratt Institute, receiving a BFA in Fashion Design in 2009. Also in 2009, Kerin opened a small jewelry company named KerinLeigh LLC, creating beautiful items from raw uncut gemstones. She worked for seven years as a freelance Fashion Designer specializing in couture and runway dresses, business wear, and children’s wear. During those years Kerin did work for a few couturiers such as Jupiters Muse, Reed Krakoff, and Ralph Rucci. Since freelance design work does not provide any form of health insurance, Kerin worked several different part-time jobs that supplied this coverage. These part time endeavors led to some very interesting jobs like concierge at the Guerlain Spa of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC; attaché for Skydive Long Island; manager of Pier 1 imports; and a tailor for Jeeves New York. Looking for a little more employment structure and continuity, Kerin landed a job in corporate fashion working for Tahari ASL as a technical production coordinator. During this time she found the love of her life, got married and started a family. This eventually motivated her to leave the industry and pursue some personal interests. Kerin and her Husband decided that they wanted to rebuild a home, as verses buying a move-in ready property. They purchased a house that had been vacant for 25 years. No kitchen, no bathrooms, water damage from the roof to the walls to the basement. Anyone else would have ripped this house to the ground, but they didn’t. Instead they loved, rehabbed and revitalized every inch of that house themselves. From the electric to the plumbing, from walls to floors to siding, driveway, walkways, moving stairs, building bathrooms and a kitchen, there is not a residential construction issue they didn’t handle at some point. Her husband is a NYC Ironworker and her father an officer for the FDNY & a general contractor. Their skills combined forces with Kerin’s design background and her mother’s excellent eye for aesthetics and composition, and made the magic happen. Also, during this time she published her first children’s book. Kerin then took her intellectual pursuits into technical engineering, creating the world’s first shock absorber travel mug. She received her first US Utility Patent, with 21 unique attributes in February of 2023. She has since moved into the world of international publishing. Kerin has designed and published many coloring books with an innovative theme called “FYA: Find Your Artist.” The concept behind these books is to take everyday images and turn them into artistic line drawings. Since the basis of every art piece is a basic line drawing. Kerin wants the world to find the artist within themselves, by using these basic line drawings to create their own masterpieces. She hopes it will inspire artist of all ages, and is continually looking for new ideas in this subject matter. After starting this international publishing adventure, she decided to utilize this platform to publish some chapter books. Kerin brainstormed, developed and wrote over the last 10 years. These books appear under titles such as: “The DIY, No Money Down, Home Reno;” “Real Treasure;” “It Takes a Village;” and “What We Should All Know About Energy.” Be sure to check out some of her titles, as well as the coloring books, journals and children’s books. And remember to stay tuned because there is more to come!
