Julia Green is the author of more than 20 books for young people. Her most recent book for children is The Boy Who Sailed the World, published by DFB: a picture book inspired by the epic sailing adventure of one of her sons. Her novels for children include The Children of Swallow Fell, The House of Light, To the Edge of the World and The Wilderness War, published by Oxford University Press. To the Edge of the World was Editor's Pick in The Bookseller, a Times Children's Book of the Week, nominated for the Carnegie award 2019 and widely and favourably reviewed. The House of Light was nominated for the Carnegie award in 2020. Her novels for teenagers and young adults are published by Puffin and Bloomsbury and include Blue Moon, Baby Blue, Breathing Underwater, Drawing with Light and This Northern Sky. Julia Green is Emeritus Professor of Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University. She founded the MA in Writing for Young People at Bath Spa University which has launched the careers of more than 65 children's and YA writers. She was Course Director until 2019. She has a PhD in Creative Writing. Julia leads creative writing workshops for children and adults in a variety of settings, including festivals and schools and for the Arvon foundation. She lives in the North-East of England with her husband David Almond and spends as much time as she can in wild, remote places. She has two adventurous grown-up sons. She writes about islands and oceans, the relationship between young people and the natural world, friendship, family, love, loss, adventure.
