DENIS MARKELL before becoming a big time author, has been a playwright, and composer/lyricist who co-wrote the musical A Backers' Audition (Manhattan Theatre Club), directed by Martin Charnin. Other works include the revue, Showing Off (with Donna Murphy and Veanne Cox), and the musical Gotham! (with other funny people). Markell has also written special comedy material for everyone from Stiller and Meara to Nathan Lane, Brooke Shields and Alan Cumming, with Al Roker thrown in for good measure. We won’t even mention Connie Chung. He co-wrote a play with Joan Rivers which was produced in Los Angeles and London. He can be seen in the background of her critically acclaimed documentary, looking optimistic. With all that, the credit that seems to impress people the most is that he wrote an episode of Thundercats. His first children’s picture book, The Great Stroller Adventure (Scholastic) was illustrated by his wife Melissa Iwai. The two then collaborated on Hush, Little Monster (Simon and Shuster, August 2012, starred review, Publisher’s Weekly). His debut novel, Click Here To Start was published in 2016 by Delacorte Press and was a Junior Library Guild Selection and an Amazon Best Book of the Month. His next novel, The Game Masters Of Garden Place will be published by Delacorte in the Spring. A lifelong resident of Brooklyn Heights, he lives in a small apartment with his wife and son and a Shetland Pony named Ronaldo. Well, that’s his story, anyhow.
